better than 'Freddy's Revenge', but worse than 'Dream Warriors'. it's pretty much the same plot as the first movie but less scary and just brought more comedy routines.
for example, when Freddy killed Sam in his water bed, he yelled "How's this for a wet dream?" i'll admit it was a little funny, but Freddy's supposed to be scary! what next, Jason's gonna tell a knock-knock joke?

This sequel was okay, i mean it was better than part2 but not better than part 3. At this point in time i think the Nightmare movies were going over board.
I loved this movie and it actually is my favorite sequel even though I feel 3 is probably better I just thought this was a great movie and really if you take part 2, 5, and FD out a nightmare on elm street would have been to me a perfect trilogy with 1,3,4. First of the deaths in this movie are great. The cockaroach one was horrible to me when i was little. The meatball hahah oh the found memories. I also LOVED the ending. I still say that is how freddy should have went out and not that wack ass ending from freddy's dead. Everything in this movie worked from the song in the opening credits(see thats how you know your in for a good movie when you can say good things about the opening f*cking credits) all the way to the end
The series starts to show its age here in this sequel. While it's entertaining & fun, it's almost too fun, this is the entry where Freddy became more game show host than vilian. It's certainly not terrible, but don't expect any scares either.
This is the one that takes the series to the point of ridiculousness. But the it's still really creative, really entertaining and really cool even though it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's also a camp classic to me and my friends we know every line and love pausing shots of Alice's stunt double as he does the numb chucks with his manly hands and crawls out Alice's window with super hairy legs.
The first REAL sequel but fails to be as awesome as the third. Some cool ideas and some great lines from Freddy but the franchise starts to feel tired here.
This movie is pure 80's awesomeness, I was only born in '87 but I still absolutely love it. The fashion, the style, the hair, the music (Who doesn't do karate while bumping Dramarama(awesome song)), the...comedian. Yes, Freddy the comedian, we've seen a transformation as the series progresses. Freddy still has that creepiness to him, and always will for the most part (if you look at the original), but it's fairly clear to see that the comedy has taken over. The thing is, even though Freddy has got jokes now instead of quick lil' quips, it somehow seems to fit and just work with the whole vibe of the film.
The cast is excellent, I would have loved to be on set and a part of it for this one. Maybe it's just me but they really seem like a cool bunch of kids, and I'm pretty sure I wanted to be a ninja like Rick Johnson (Andras Jones) when I was younger, hell, still do. We see the characters from Dream Warriors: Kristen, Kincaid and Joey all return. Unfortunately Patricia Arquette does not reprise her role as Kristen, but singer Tuesday Knight steps in and does a decent job (and an amazing job on the intro song "runniiiiing from this niiightmare"). The new characters added are a fun bunch, got their clichés but memorable none the less. We got the sister of Rick, quiet and shy daydreamer Alice (played by the beautiful Lisa Wilcox. Possibly my favorite character of the series, besides Freddy of course). Then we have Debbie (the popular boy crazy fitness expert(Brooke Theiss)),and Shiela (the asthmatic bookworm(Toy Newkirk)) and Dan Jordan (the likable jock and friend of Rick, played by Danny Hassle).
Freddy is on a mission in this one, as he is brought back by flaming dog pee, with no real explanation, but a quick botched one liner "you shouldn't have buried me". Hey, it works for me, Freddy's back! Our former Dream Warriors don't seem to do so well this time around, and since it seems like there are basically two casts, it does make sense taking them out first.
We quickly see Kincaid have to fight Freddy in a junkyard, I'm guessing same one as in part 3, but this time around in a nightmare. Kincaid is his usual self, talking some smack before being disposed of. Immediately after, it's Joey's turn to go. While falling asleep Johnny Depp esquire with headphones on and TV as well, the water bed starts to shake and a poster model appears from within it but of course it's really Freddy having some fun before pulling him under. Kristen is drugged shortly after by her mother "Andelay!" because she refuses to sleep, it's pretty clear she's a goner. I don't know what was up with the beach scene in Kristen's nightmare, it just didn't seem to fit, Freddy rocking shades while pretending to be Jaws, just didn't work for me. Before being burned alive, she pulls in Alice (remember that dream power she has), to start things rolling for Freddy on the new batch of victims. Luckily Kristen passes on this trait of hers to Alice.
It almost seemed too easy, Freddy couldn't kill any of them in part 3, now he's on a hot streak. And now it's up to the new kids on the block to kill him. Quite a mighty task lays before them, and obviously we know which one will step up to the plate. Freddy's transformation of character isn't the only one we see here, Alice also changes, which does work fairly well. As the movie goes on, she gains the power of each one of her friends and Freddy's victims, leading up to a kick-ass battle in the end.
There are some only okay kills like the suck-face death of Sheila and the ninja glove death of Rick, they could have both been stepped up a bit, but they still work. Debbie's death, however, is pretty awesome as she's turned in to a cockroach and gets an oozy squash. What really makes it great, is that we see a bit of foreshadowing when a cockroach runs out of her bag of food when she is first introduced while stating "Ew, so disgusting" before squashing it.
By the end, we got two teens remaining, Alice and Dan who just so happen to be locking eyes throughout the film. It's a race against time as Alice must take out Freddy before he does the same to Dan. I love the scene with Alice getting ready to brawl while clearing her mirror of pictures until she's just looking at herself "Fuckin' A". They pick the most perfect place for their showdown, as we see Alice layeth the smacketh downeth in a Chuch, similar to the one in part 5, if not the same one. The final blow works well, as Alice makes Freddy see a reflection of himself which results in all the souls that Freddy has captured come alive and rip him apart from the inside out.
We get the perfect ending...Alice ending up with Dan and becoming the Dream Master while Freddy is laid to rest...for now. Definitely a fun sequel, that doesn't live up to the original but continues the story with new ideas presented in a hip way. It's really hard not to like this one, it loses a lil' steam but keeps the series rolling strong.
I love me some Nightmare on Elm Street! And my favorite chapter in the franchise is the Renny Harlin directed 4th film, the Dream Master. This one, in this reviewers humble opinion, has got everything you want from a great NOES film: 80's awesomeness, creepy-cool dream sets, and Freddy spitting out awesome one-liners! The 80's-ness is really amped up in this one and the film is all the better for it. If this same film were made today I shudder to think of what it might be like. Hyper-editing, Gossip Girl flunkie cast, generic rock music, and an overly serious tone. Since this movie was made 20 years ago in place of all that worthless crap we have 80's hair, a wicked sense of humor, synthed out music, dated lingo, and great real (ie: no CGI) special effects and sets. The sets really are the best part of this film as Renny Harlin and his team pulled out all the stops in creating some of the most atmospheric and genuinely unsettling scenarios for our poor sleep-deprived teens. The best one being the fate that befalls the body obsessed teen near the end. Disguisting and distrubing. Freddy is also at his most diabolical in this one. Sure, he's scarier in other ones but this time out he's sadistic, almost seeming to relish in the torture of these kids. It really adds to the film and makes you believe that Freddy is truly getitng more powerful everytime he is resurrected.
The plot is as follows: It's been a year and Freddy seems to be gone for good and only Kristen seems to be worried that he might still be lurking. Of course, Freddy is not dead and resurrects himself (cool effects) and proceeds to snuff out the kids who defeated him in the previous film. He finds out he needs Kristen's best friend Alice to link him to a new batch of kids. Freddy then begins killing the new teens one by one and noone will believe Alice that the boogeyman is back.
Pretty simple stuff but it's a nice set-up to introduce us to the new heroine for this film and the 5th, Alice Johnson. She's played superbly by Lisa Wilcox and she is undoubtedly my favorite character in the series other than Freddy (sorry Nancy!). The other actors in the film do a nice job playing their ready-made roles, jock, nerd, hot-chick, boyfriend. The return of Joey, Kincaid, and Kristen from the pervious film is welcome although the girl who plays Kristen looks nothing like Patricia Arquette who decided not to reprise her role. Robert Englund is of course stellar as always spouting his best quips of the series ("Wanna suck face?"). Other than the set pieces, the creepy music really adds a lot to the dream-like state of the film. Eerie synth and percussion really give some of the more grisly scenes an extra punch. Freddy' death is also really cool despite the contrived rationale behind it.
This film is easily the NOES that I rewatch the most. The entertainment value of it puts over the top of my two other favorites: the superior scripted and acted but much too down-beat 3rd installment and the goofy, surreal, and gothic 5th installment. If you have a gun to your head and have to pick one NOES film to watch, pick the 4th one, Freddy will thank you.
A weak installment. This is one of my least favorites, it's just not a good horror film at all. It had parts that did entertain, but overall it was pretty bad.
You shouldn't have buried me i'm not dead yet has to be the best line in a horror movie Freddy is so original and this film is one of the best examples of his uniqueness
This movie is Awesome, I just saw it again the other day. One of the best from "The Nightmare on Elm Street" Saga. If your a fan of "Nightmare on Elm Street" you will like this movie. There ain't no Character like Freddy Krueger in Horror movies these days.

boring and stupid.
dont really remember much from it.
The last 'good ' Elm Street or aka when Freddy sold out to the MTV crowd. After the success of Part 3 Elm St went supernova with this installment. More victims than any other Elm St with the most outrageous effects and kills in the series. Who could forget the cockroach sequence??? I loved this one when it was first released and still holds up pretty well today but this is one where 'wisecrack Freddy' really started the hit high gear thus making the character a bit of a joke. Still the dream set pieces were well above average, especially Freddy's resurrection in the junk yard and the way OTT ending with all the souls literally bursting out of his body. Great effects and set pieces but now too commercial and jokey.
One of the few out of the series that I liked. That cockroach scene is still effin gross to me lol.

I thought Freddy's 4th was pretty good. Sometime after part 3, Kristen, Joey, and Kincaid realize Freddy is coming back! After Joey and Kincaid die, Kristen tells Alice about Freddy. Kristen dies and Alice is given a power because she is the dream master and could kill Freddy! There are some cool scenes like when Freddy is on the beach. One disgusting part is when Debbie is working out, and Freddy turns her arms into giant cockroach arms. Another cool/disgusting part is when Freddy is about to eat a meatball off a pizza, and the heads on the meatballs look like Alice's friends that keep dying. If you love the Freddy movies, you'll love A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER!!!
A decent sequel I enjoyed it. Had some memorable parts like the final death scene. I thought the special effects were done great. this was a fun film to watch. I enjoyed the ending with all the souls coming out of Freddy. He was way to humorous in this film which was a weak spot. But still a fun film to watch.
A very well made film technical-wise. The visual effects are really elaborate for a small budget film (athough this one had the biggest budget out of any in the series). Tuesday Knight is a letdown as Kristen (picking the role up after Patrcia Arquette in Dream Warriors. Its hard to imagine her being the same character, but other than that this is an all around good freddy film, Thing started getting pretty silly here, but there are some scenes that make up for that. After this the series went into overkill (no pun intended) and stated sucking alot. Atleast until New Nightmare (which isnt even really part of the series).
This is movie is really good. I have always held a close spot in my heart since this is the first nightmare i watched. This movie is really full of over the top nightmare scenes that are like cheezy jokes. The movie is cheezy and goofy is light on the horror, but the final scene has always been a very cool one in my book. If you like freddy then he will not dissapoint you here.
Wow. I nevr thought I would be saying this; but I actually ENJOY a Renny Harlin film. 'Nightmare 4' is the beginning of the end for me as a fan of this series. Freddy goes to the beach and gets silly with pizzas and cockroaches here. Thus, a horror icons lightning descent into the ridiculous. Wasn't this guy a child molestor? heck, let's put him on a lunch box! This was the first 'Nightmare' movie I saw in the theaters as a kid, and I loved it dearly. It has since aged and tarnished, but I'll still pull it out to show someone who hasn't seen the film. Basically, the last watchable Freddy film.
