An underrated sequel. This is more of a possession story than a nightmare film. The gay themes are more than subtle IMO. It's actually well-acted and Jesse is kind of an awkward character that makes it interesting.

Ugh... sadly this film was as bad as people say it was. It started out average and was watchable, but by the middle all the way to the end, it was just too obvious that this film was rushed and horribly thought out! Definitely worth skipping!

This movie gets some bonus points just for being fucking bizarre.

Posted By: evil_ash86 at 11:27pm, October 17, 2009

a cool plot, but it could've been better

Not nearlly as good as the first but still not bad at all. Some decent effects and decent performances most noticeably from Clu Culager.

However it just isn't the firt moie there is just something missing its not as memorable not as dark not as quotable as the first and theres no Heather Lakengamp as well. Plus i thought the connections to th first movie (the diary) was a little forced and could of been done better.

The film was shot though beautifully i have to admit the shots of the outside of the house and the gym inparticular.

so on the whole not as good as the first but still not bad at all.

a very bad sequel to a decent original. I used to own the boxset but sold it due to the fact i didn't enjoy most of the freddy films. I owned it cause i collected horror franchises at the time.

The first Elm Street is pure excellence. The most original, classic horror ever made. But this rather horrible sequel ruined that vibe, with stupid, corny deaths and alot of acting issues. Ok, maybe I'm being harsh, but I hated this compared to the first. The acting was a bore, and the plot was just plain stupid. The deaths were gory fun, but were a little ridiculous. I liked Freddy better here though, he seemed alot more scary, with some real atmospheric scenes of violence towards to end of the movie. Fans of the first, stay well away!

Good Points: Gory deaths, scary Freddy and a great ending.
Bad Points: Boring at times, horrible plot and acting, re cycled ideas.

5/10

This movie suprised me! I didn't know what to expect from the first sequel, but it was actually pretty good. How can you forget the famous room cleaning scene? Classic.

ZERO SKULLS

One of the worst horror movies ever.
This is the movie masucist's dream come true.

I really don't understand the hate for this film. I last watched it like a year ago and never really picked up on the whole homoerotica vibe, but now people mention it, i see where there coming from. But this did not affect my overall opinion of the film. I admit it's not as nearly as good as the first installment in the series but noway is it the worst. I'd say it's the 3rd best, after Dream Warriors. There wasn't a point in the film where i was not entertained and hooked on the storyline. Overall i think the film has some good kills and some memorable moments

Posted By: Mayhem at 11:47am, July 13, 2009

It you can make it through all the homoeroticism going on in this movie (and it's a lot!) then you have some decent gore, Freddy still being pretty scary & the pool party massacre that's the highlight of the whole movie.

Posted By: truchainsaw28 at 12:04pm, July 8, 2009

This is without a doubt the most homoerotic horror film ever made. Without a doubt the gay subtext in the film is so over the top. and being that i am gay I can enjoy that aspect of it. As far as being a great movie it's far from it. but it's still creative and freddy is still pretty scary. Plus the guys are hotesque always a plus.

Posted By: Broomann43 at 7:23pm, July 4, 2009

Jesus... this was something awful...
You can tell it's bad because the only thing I remember about the entire movie was the nude bondage scene with the gym teacher... why did this even have to happen?

Posted By: Chadinator92 at 2:10am, July 3, 2009

What is so wrong with this sequel? I really thought it was great! In fact it was my favorite part in the Elm street series!

Posted By: GRUDGE4life at 12:11pm, June 15, 2009

great story, but not something i expect from a nightmare on elm street movie!

Posted By: xln10 at 5:10pm, May 16, 2009

Didn't really like this movie. There were a few hits, and a lot of misses

Posted By: Skratchy at 4:10pm, March 28, 2009

It's hard to comprehend what was going on in the film makers heads when they churned out this stinker. Seriously, none of the rules apply from the first movie and it's less than illogical. Why would Freddy essentially want to be reincarnated as this loser?

Best part is when the bird randomly catches on fire.

Though Its Mostly Hated. I Enjoyed Nightmare 2 For What It Is. A Dark Retelling Of Beauty And The Beast

Posted By: leatherfacekillserinfan1 at 9:57am, March 15, 2009

While this movie is still not as good as the original it is ok...at first the movie starts off really slow and seems really weird...but an 50 minutes into the movie it does actually become pretty creepy...the part I'm talking about is when Freddy comes out of Jesse and kills Grady and than goes and tries to kill Lisa and ruins Lisa's party annd from that point forward the movies is pretty good although the ending should have been better....this is good but still not as good as the original

Posted By: Carrie at 8:39pm, March 14, 2009

I would skip this one and go straight to the 3rd one tbh.

It's alright, but just not as enjoyable.

Posted By: Necronatalusz at 4:56pm, February 22, 2009

All high scores to the series.

Posted By: Dr.Hyde_666 at 5:41pm, February 20, 2009

I'm sorry...but this is my favorite in the Elm Street series...i think it's creepier..and Freddy is more demonic...nothing funny about him at all. The FX are great, especially the "possesed" scenes...and when he crashes the pool party...Iconic...great film..Englund at his sinister best.

This is just as horrible as "Freddys Dead". Absolutley terrible film. These movie suffer from the same problem as the Friday movies, people grew up watching them and they have nostalgic value to horror fans who mistake good memories with good filmmaking. I've been guilty of this before myself. I must say i have never been so shocked at people liking a movie this terrible. Literally every horror fan i know in real life considers this a cinematic abortion. This past halloween i tried to watch all of the Nightmare films, and had to skip through this one after 20 min. Not scary or creepy in ANY way. And people have told me it was just as much a piece of shit when it first came out in theaters. Wish i could give it 1 skull.

"you are All my Children now " - Freddy

One of my favorite of the series, truly genius!

Posted By: MistAh BlistAh at 2:06pm, January 26, 2009

Over the years, I've grown to appreciate this film a lot more then when I was younger. I still only consider it to be about average, but that's a lot better then what I use to call it. Well, Freddy is back, and he wants revenge! Robert Englund does a phenomenal job once again as our favorite Christmas sweatered maniac. The rest of the cast, not so much. This time around we focus on Jesse Walsh (Mark Patton), a young lad who has moved in to a new home with his family, and guess who's former home it use to be, dun dun dun...

So inevitably, Freddy starts terrorizing the fresh meat. Stalking him through his dreams, while slowly taking control over his body "You've got the body...I've got the brain". The first nightmare we see, I must say is fairly well done. In this nightmare, we see Jesse on the school bus heading home with Robert Englund appearing in his normal form as the bus driver (nice!). They go on a little off road field trip, as our innocent bus driver becomes Freddy, and gives our hero a lil' scare. Luckily Jesse wakes up, covered in sweat, screaming (...like a girl) just before Freddy can rip him to shreds. They definitely took this film in a different direction having a male lead in a slasher. Sometimes it's good to be different, but not in this case...

As many already know, this movie has a heavy homo-erotic undertone, and in my opinion it does affect the movie in a not so positive way. Whether it's Jesse's all-star dance moves while cleaning his room, his high pitch screams, the gym teacher in the gay bar, the shower scene or the weird buddy buddy relationship between Jesse and high school friend Grady (Robert Rusler), it's pretty hard to deny that it's there. Over the years, I've somewhat learned to look past this and would suggest others to do the same to make it more enjoyable.

This movie definitely breaks some of the rules created in the first film, such as things happening outside of dreams like the family budgie going haywire and exploding in mid-air (WTF!) and toasters catching fire, basically pure randomness. Well now that I think about it, the whole plot is breaking the rules, but this sequel was clearly rushed out quick-time but what can you do.

One thing that I love about this movie is that Freddy is still scary, he has a few really great scenes in this, unfortunately they're too far in between. The scene where Freddy takes off his hat, pulls back his skin to reveal his brain is great, reminiscent of Freddy cutting off his fingers in the original. Then towards the end of the film, we're treated with a couple others like Freddy finally taking full control of Jesse and coming out from within, shedding the Jesse layer of skin before giving Grady a much deserved shanking. Then there's the pool party massacre with Freddy in the real world and not giving a damn, quite entertaining, although unrealistic to the rest of the series, as Freddy still seems to have some supernatural powers he's known for in nightmares.

One major complaint I have with this film, is the conclusion, it's extremely anti-climatic. With Freddy having full control of things in the real world through Jesse, it's up to high-school crush/girlfriend Lisa Webber(Kim Myers) to save him. She goes searching for Jesse/Freddy at the old Powerplant, hence the boiler rooms always appearing in dreams (I guess Freddy must have really liked that job as that's the first place he goes while being in the real world). While making her way inside she must walk by guard dogs with human faces (hmm...The Unborn, not so original now are we). Once finding and confronting Freddy, they have the shortest chase ever, and right when he's about to kill her...he can't! Wanna know why? Because she loves Jesse too much and wants him back, so she kisses Freddy/Jesse as her deathblow to the dream demon...er...reality demon...and that melts him...what an exhilarating finish, quite epic *rolls eyes*. It's pretty clear this film has it's faults, but at the same time, it does have some great Freddy moments thrown in there. At the end of the day, it's a really sub par sequel to an incredible original. A forgettable entry that is pretty much ignored through the rest of the series. Hmm...normally I'd be upset with a series doing this, but in this case maybe that was a good thing.

5/10

why did u bring this in fucking franchise .. it was GEY movie man...ORIGINAL was fuckin scary and the best ever .. but it still ruin it little ri8

A nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's revenge is hit and miss. You either like it or you hate it. In this case, I liked it. There's also two ways to look at it. One, as an effective fun popcorn flick. Or two, a horrible disgrace to the original. If you are expecting what the first film had, such as great acting and lots of scares. Then that's why most people hate it. People were expecting too much from the sequel and that's why people said it failed. I thought it would suck because of the reviews but I actually liked it. Overall give this sequel a chance. It's a fun way to kill an hour and twenty seven minutes.

This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. Although I think as a sequel it fails, and it does very little to advance the story of Freddy Krueger, I still enjoy watching it from time to time.

Posted By: Turk3102 at 2:25pm, December 1, 2008

This movie was so bad, it makes me sad to think that they sat back, and made more of them because of the success of this sack of shit. I'd rather watch Barney than this crap again.

One of the worst horror sequels ever.

Not a very good sequel to the original.

I was in too it!, but didnt start watching in expectation that it was gogin to be an awesome story line, you have to enjoy it for what it is! FREDDY!

This is one of the major disappointments in all of the Nightmare films in my opinion the worst. Good god one of the worst story's ever why the F*ck does he have to pick the absolute idiotic teenager to take over this is a major major disappointment. By far the worst thing is the plot. This film is TERRIBLE!!!

Posted By: Anthropophagus at 3:56am, August 2, 2008

This film is absolutely terrible. Robert Englund's appearance as Freddy Krueger is just as memorable as all his appearances so there's no problems there, it's just the film is drenched in absolutely appalling acting and stupid plot.

Posted By: jpugly13 at 6:58pm, May 29, 2008

This movie while not as good as the first is still alright. The first time i watched it i was like what the hell. Since then i have watched it more and it is ok. Tried to go this whole other route, that was unnecessary. The movie was good and crazy and just alot of madness.

Posted By: sixxchik at 5:19pm, May 16, 2008

im sorry but this movie sucked big time

Posted By: QueenOfHalloween at 12:38pm, March 19, 2008

Ok sequel, no where near as scary as the original.

Posted By: GGoblin31 at 11:08am, March 18, 2008

A big step DOWN from Craven's original, but at least Jack Sholder and company are trying to make 'Freddy's Revenge' a scary flick. At times the film makes no sense (exploding parakeets; pool party Freddy; leather-clad gym teachers), but isn;t that the point of the 'Nightmare' movies? The blurring of reality is running rampant in this one. Kudos to Kevin Yeager's Freddy makeup. This is a weird one, kids. I like to call this the 'Twin Peaks' of the 'Nightmare' films.
