Once I found out that this movie was Directed by Peter Jackson, I had to watch it. All I can say is that I was not disappointed. I hope he comes back to his horror roots as it would be amazing to see what he could do with a budget.

One of my favourites and the best horror-comedy ever. Absolutely HILARIOUS!!! So much gore and blood.

The US unrated dvd is NOT uncut, though, the movie is trimmed by a few minutes (mostly dialogue scenes). I have seen the full unedited cut, and it's better.

i love dead alive its fucking hardcore. i saw it when i was 14 and said to myself this is fucked up but so damn entertaining. to me it was like another evil dead film but actors with accents and alot more gorey and i was great. if your a true horror man and u dont like this movie go fuck yourself then

Posted By: Razor_Sharp at 6:11am, September 8, 2009

The grosest movie I've seen but very stupid too.

Posted By: Mayhem at 12:50pm, July 15, 2009

Simply put, the goriest, silliest, craziest film ever made. Must be seen to be believed because no words or photos can do justice to the insanity put on film here. Oh Peter Jackson come back to the horror community that misses you so!

Posted By: truchainsaw28 at 11:05am, July 8, 2009

Hands down one of the craziest films ever made. I remember seeing this for the first time and just being able to turn it off because of the sheer lunacy displayed on screen. i'm not sure if it's actually a good movie but it's one hell of a fun ride and unlike anything you will ever see in your lifetime. check out the unrated version for extra nastiness it's totally worth it and still no other film comes close to it in the crazy gore catagory.

Posted By: Powerthrashingdeath at 4:54am, July 8, 2009

The undisputed champion of all the splatter films. The only bad thing about this film is once you´ve seen it, hardly any other film will be able to quench your "Gore-Thirst". I just wish more films were this fun to watch.

Posted By: Broomann43 at 7:52pm, July 4, 2009

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: feat747 at 4:22am, June 21, 2009

It's a little too silly for me to give it a perfect score but the gore more than makes up for any shortcomings.

Posted By: KlownHUNTER3 at 2:35am, June 21, 2009

Absolutely top notch gore, I bought this movie for 6dols and just watched it for the first time... Dam this movie is a comedy and one of the goriest movies I ever witnessed... See it for yourself its a cult classic and just plain fucked...

Posted By: ashleo3125 at 2:30am, June 21, 2009

I just saw this movie.... It was great!!!!! I don't think I laughed so hard and have been disgusted at the same time I loved it. I am sad though seeing it for the first time now... But I am very happy to have found it!

Posted By: goooore at 7:22pm, June 17, 2009

I was ashamed not to have seen it until now, but i'm so glad I did. It starts off sort of slow, but by the end oh my god what a blast!

Posted By: Chadinator92 at 10:00am, June 15, 2009

Gore for gags! I love it.

Posted By: Googopqp at 6:13pm, April 22, 2009

THIS MOVIE WAS F***ing GREAT!!! it says it is the goriest movie of all time and that is not an understatement. this movie rlly is the goriest movie ever made. The entire half hour of this film is gory, blood, and lawn mower deaths. Watch this movie and laugh at the kick ass priest with the classic line, "I kick ass, for the lord!" 9/10 easily!

Posted By: randomrick at 6:44pm, March 13, 2009

If you can get through the first 20 minutes or so, Peter Jackson's (Lord of the Rings) Dead-Alive is without a doubt the best Horror-Comedy of all time. I'll admit that the first time through I wasn't sure about the first 1/4 of the movie, but if you have seen the whole thing, I can't see how anyone could disagree that this is the best Horror/ Comedy movie of all time. It includes a "walking" anus/ intestines that begs for it's life, a protagonist that literally mows through a house filled with dozens and dozens of zombies (ending in a house with an inch of blood and gore on the floor), a twenty-foot tall zombie mother, zombie sex (that, of course, results in a zombie baby being walked through the park in a baby stroller lined with barbed wire by the protagonist), a ninja-priest, and a lawnmower (trust me, you'll love the lawnmower scene... and the baby... and the "living" intestines... and pretty much everything else). Like I tell everyone, if you can make it through the intentionally cheesy first 20 minutes or so. Once the zombie mother squirts her pus into the custard, then soon after eats the dog, you will love it.

It might be one of the most underrated horror movies ever (and just about everyone loves it). I don't see why this isn't playing repeatedly on cable and at cinemas that play classics. The only movie here I can think of where 10/10 just isn't enough.
And after seeing the movie a few times, I am even beginning to appreciate the cheesy soap-opera beginning of the movie. Just amazing.

wow i must be one of the few ppl who hates this movie. Honestly, Ive seen the US cut and the unrated cut, and i think both are god awful. Keep in mind I really like pretty much all of peter jacksons movies, there was just something about this movie that really turned me off. Its badly edited, shot and acted, the score sucks, the humor just wasnt doing it for me, this whole movie just really turns me off, and i usually love splatter and gore. This is one of the most overratted horror films ever.

Where do I begin with this one! This film, is, hands down, the best hand crafted gore film of its kind. There are boat loads of natural looking gore throughout the entire movie. The effects and makeup are crafted beautifully in this movie, with bright colors all around.

The story to this film is outright hilarious, the acting style fits perfect for the story line. You have everything from a clay-mation diseased rat, to an ass kicking priest that does Karate, to a lawnmower used to plow though a horde of zombies, leaving buckets and buckets of blood splattered throughout.

This movie has it all, gore, laughs and a great story. This film does however lack scariness, as it is meant more to entertain and amuse, along the lines of Street Trash and Army of Darkness, but not to be confused with those films' style. I recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of gore or anyone who is a fan of comedy that has the stomach for an all out gore fest. 10 out of 10!

'Saw' is for pussies. I'd never think I'd utter those words, but after seeing Braindead (aka 'Dead Alive'), I cannot keep my mouth shut.
When humans talk about gory movies, they cannot fail to mention Braindead in their conversation, or Peter Jackson himself will fly over and assrape them. This is the big mama of bloody movies, and noone can call him or herself a horror movie fan without at least watching this. What Peter Jackson has created will be hailed as a classic for years to come, and I praise his Evil Dead-inspired mixture of comedy and extreme gore to create the 'splatstick' subgenre of horror. This movie has elevated itself to the status of such horror staples as Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead II, Re-Animator, The Toxic Avenger, Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps, Ravenous and a handful of others to create an intensely entertaining viewing experience. We could praise the script and the acting and gore all day long, but it all comes down to this fact - Braindead is an instant classic, and will change how you view horror movies for years to come.

i was hella suprized because i had just seen King Kong

Posted By: dan_madge at 12:46pm, December 15, 2008

Nice one, funny as fuck and really gory. Best bits are the ear in the custard, the nurse's death and of course the kung fu priest.

Best movie ever!

- Loads and loads of gore
- Zombies
- Zombies having sex
- Zombie having a baby

What more could you want?

Posted By: gorehound62 at 4:57pm, November 14, 2008

well. if you are looking for a movie with an abundunce of blood, gratuitous violence and gore, and is an absolute blast, look no further. dead alive is one of those great, but rare, films that will satisfy even the most hungry gorehounds desires. peter jackson is an absolute filmmaking genius. hard to beleive, though, that a few years down the road he would win an oscar for best picture.

Posted By: alienfetus at 12:27am, November 10, 2008

Hands down one of my favorite zombie movies ever. It's funny, disgusting, and gory beyond anything even by today's standards.

Posted By: suzi at 7:20pm, November 4, 2008

It made me cringe , gag and laugh !!!!!

Posted By: Skalokos at 12:43am, October 6, 2008

Anybody who has even the slightest interest in gore movies for this one. I can't say Cannibal Corpse would work a soundtrack, however, because this movie has a lot of humour in it. Zombie sex, zombie babies, a huge naked zombie thing, and a priest yelling "I kick ass for the Lord!". It is like the unabridged evil dead movies but with a different protagonist. Definetly a must see. And if you get queasy...don't even think about it... :)

Posted By: seras_integra at 7:04pm, September 13, 2008

Oh Dear God! This is, without a doubt, the goriest movie I have ever seen. I loved it! It is also very funny. The zombie sex was hysterical (especially since one of the participants had been a priest before he turned). The fact that a zombie baby was conceived during this unholy union was even better. Tasteless to the extreme and I loved every minute of it

Posted By: jigsaw_fan87 at 5:44pm, September 5, 2008

So I finally got around to seeing this movie after years of being told it was great. And I was not disappointed.

Any fan of The Evil Dead will love this. It's funny, gory as hell, and just good ol' family fun. Okay that last one might be a stretch.

If there was one thing I would say was wrong with it was that by the end I was getting a little bored. The scene with the lawnmower, while hilarious, did drag on slightly too long. But that's just a minor quibble.

This movie is a classic and I can say that now with personal experience.

Anyways, until next time...

My second favourite horror film of all time. You will never see as much blood, guts n gore in any horror film since but it is all done in a deliciously black humoured way!

"I kick arse for the lord"

Absolute cult classic!

Posted By: Butterkeuh at 7:26am, June 8, 2008

one of the best goor movies ever made !!!!! its so funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love, love,love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: superbum at 11:18pm, June 5, 2008

My absolute Favorite gore movie ever. It does not getter bloodier, pussier, more revolting, more absurd, or better than this folks! If you have not seen this movie, WATCH IT! AHHHHHHHHHH!

There's even a Ratmonkey in it!

Posted By: killsampson at 12:23am, April 4, 2008

Before King Kong, before Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson made Dead Alive. Don't expect any state of the art CGI here folks, this is straight up old school Gore at its best. So if you like blood and more blood and guts and and blood and zombie sex and
and a lawn mower death scene that will blow your mind than this is the movie for you, oh yeah and there is a tone of blood and guts!!!
