I'm not sure which version is better, but if you were gonna buy one I would say get the cut version. There is no additional footage that helps the story or plot, no edited out gore or kills or anyhting. The only plus to the director's cut is that it's w i d e s c r e e n, and the so called controversial ending is just....dumb.

Ash takes too many drops of this potion and sleeps right to the end of the world and then the movie ends. I prefer the cut versions ending where you actually see a deadite! I didn't understand why all the deadites in AOD are well, gone there are only 3 deadites through the whole movie they're replaced by bones.

So only if you are a die hard Evil Dead/AOD collector this version of the movie is for you. I don't think AOD is a bad movie it's very entertaining and just plain fun to watch, but i feel cheated so how for buying this version of the movie which differs in almost in no way from the cut version.
