Phan·tasm (fan-taz-em) "a dream, a nightmare, a sense of unreality, something in a place where it shouldn't be".-Don Coscarelli

Filmed in a mortuary on weekends through out 1977, the first film was not expected to be more than a drive-in movie. No one expected anything more, but they were wrong. It was a cult hit, and through the next 2 decades we would see exactly what the word "Hell" meant for the dead.

PHANTASM: The original in a series always has to be the one that leaves the mark on the film industry, and this one doesn't fail. Having tension, and a dream like essence it brought the viewer into a place just like Mr. Coscarelli's definition. Reggie our protagonist (through out all of the films) is not as seen here as in the other ones. Rank: #1

PHANTASM II: "The Ball Is back!" it was, but it wasn't as good, to me, as the original. Something didn't sit right, but I still loved it. Angus Scrimm had a much more sinister appeal in this one, but not as much as in the third. Reggie gives a solid performance here. Rank: #4

PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD: Great title, and what I thought was a great movie. Even though it had a little kid in it, and when there is a little kid in a movie it's horrible (the gamera movies)! This is not the case. This movie is awesome. I think that it was a nice improvement than 2, but again the reason to watch these movies is to find out about the legend of the tall man and Mike. Rank: #3

PHANTASM: oblIVion: A great title, but when I saw this one it left an impact on me almost as great as in the first. We find out more about The Tall Man, but not as much about his sinister plan with Mike. This one is just a kick ass movie. That scene with the sphere boobs I thought was hilarious. Rank: #2

Now people will probably have a different ranking, but in a whole they all make a beautiful crafted story that is like reading a book. If I could they would all be put together in one long film to answer all the questions, but we need the last part of the story.

"IT'S NEVER OVER!"-The Tall Man (Phantasm II)

Score: 9 / 10
