Ever since The Terminator (classic, btw), it was fun to imagine what the future war might actually look like. We only got glimpses of it and what we saw was beyond cool.
What most people wouldn't imagine is that it would be a PG-13 Road Warrior-ripoff with a constipated-looking Sam Worthington and two kids running around. LAME!
And John Connor as Christian Bale with his retarded Batman-voice.
Terrible characters, hopeless excuse for a plot, some ok action scenes but that's about it.

Amazing that such a terrible movie can be made on such a huge budget.
If you are a fan of the two first Terminator movies because of their great plots, brutality, sci-fi horror elements - then you will be dissapointed like me.
This movie might as well have been called Transformers 3. There are plenty of explosions and big robots and close to no plot at all. I though that all the characters were boring, especially Sam Worthington, Zzzzzzz...
There were so many plotholes in this movie that just made it crappier: (SPOILER: A transformer can be used as a bike using a USB-stick, a good "half-transformer" can just shot down the entire skynet defencesystem but pressing a button, the robots are all manlike but retarted etc. etc. etc.etc.) There is no atmosphere in this movie at all.
What a shitfest! But what else could be expected from McG, the director of Charlies Angles?
An special effects extravaganza that was fast paced, thrilling, sometimes intense and to me an satisfying entry into the Terminator series. Sure it kind of lost its heart and spirit that the last Terminator movies had and I sometimes felt that I was watching the Fox television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles but that didn't bother me because I love that series. It kind of had that The Road Warrior feel and look to it too but again those movies were great as well so no complaints from me. I thought Sam Worthington was the best actor and the most memorable person in this entire movie, he even out shined the great Christian Bale. This was not as entertaining or to be honest as memorable as the last Terminator movies especially the 2nd one but it is the most different when it comes to mood and atmosphere because it is a tad darker and more serious than the last ones. Overall I recommend it because it didn't disappoint me but it still wasn't my favorite Terminator movie the 2nd one still is but it's an welcomed action packed, thrill ride, didn't beat Star Trek though.
I just can't even begin to imagine where to begin, Ohh snap yes I do!
This movie was INSANEly bad...I was extremely dissapointed. The few good action scenes seemed highly unrealistic, yeah I know you fags out there are like "well dur it was a science fiction movie blah blah I'm gay as shit" I know but humans can't do what they were doing in that movie HUMANS. anyway the movie was bad I wish I could just skip the rating or give it a negative one bazillion!
Aside from a few good action sequences, this movie was pretty bad. Some of the worst dialogue in all 4 movies. Several inconsistencies in regards to the story of the terminator universe. Christian Bale is HORRIBLE as John Connor, I felt any minute that he was going to bust out an "I am Batman" in his sreaming/whisper. All in all, I thought it was worth one watch, but am definitely glad I didn't pay to see it. I was excited for the supposed new Terminator trilogy, but I just don't think McG is prepared to take on such a big project.
There is a lot of praise and positivity going around the film. I set the bar for expectations very low, and I was somewhat satisfied. My review probably is useless since I haven't seen any of the Terminator movies, just this one. The most essential flaw in the film was that there was way too much action. Now, I know this is a summer movie and there is tons of action, but for this type of movie it was too much.
The plot was so paper thin, one can easily say it's the "Boom" movie. I'm pretty sure the other Terminators had a strong script and that's what created the positivity from critics. Shoot, even the first sequel was critically acclaimed. The first thirty minutes were pretty good. It was a combination of story and action and worked coherently. After that it was just violence every five seconds, no that is not a hyperbole. It actually did.
For fans, expecting just multitudes of action, this is their film. As for the rest of the audience wanting a film in the vein of Iron Man or even Wanted, I guess we have to wait for another summer blockbuster to swipe this one off it's feet. Oh wait? Didn't that new Star Trek movie come out? It was sure better than this one. While Terminator was far from a clunker, it's far from a good movie.
Although a lot of plot holes and flaws, it wasn't that bad. I like the twist it had, but the trailers gave it away. The beginning of the film loses focus on the main story idea, I was totally lost, but it was enjoyable, unrealistic, but enjoyable. I was shocked to see the digital scanned face of Arnold planted on a double.
This is a well above average Terminator movie and not the disaster many say it is. It's nowhere near as good as the first two, but seriously, how could it be ? For a Terminator film to be on par with the first 2 then Jim Cameron would have to write and direct. Saying that its miles ahead of Part 3 which was just a T2 retread anyway.
The problem with this entry is the lazy script and awful direction from McG. Good actors not being given anything to do bring this movie down. Even Bales John Connor is one dimensional and does nothing but growl and shout orders. Bryce Dallas Howard is stuck in a role that is practically a waste of time and Moon Bloodgood is under utilised. Anton Yelchin does an OK job as Kyle Reese but the actor who really chews into his role is Sam Worthington. They should have cast him in the lead role.
On the plus side we finally get to see the world post Judgement Day and the war with the machines which actually produces some pretty awesome action scenes and an array of new hardware hunting down the last surviving humans. The desert landscapes and settings do bring an apocalyptic feel to the movie and produce a gloomy backdrop to the amazing action. It will be good to see what happens story wise with the next 2 installments but the producers might want to reconsider hiring McG again. Sure, the guy knows how to blow shit up and work with effects but is hopeless with high calibre actors.
This was Ok and as an action flick it delivered the goods in a PG13 (or 12a in the Uk) sort of way. Lots of special effects, pacey, 1 or 2 effective sustained action sequences. But as a war movie with the dark overtones that it promised then no it didn't deliver. These are machines that will tear you apart if need be, and if this is going to be a war movie (which it is so pitching to be) then lets see the horrors of this war.
The actings fine, the story is fine besides 1 or 2 plot holes on route and the effects are great. It just missed the opportunity to put anything truely memorable in it. Anything with emotional impact eg. The openning titles and intensity of 2, the Michael Biehns "will not ever stop" speech and the edge of your seat feeling in 1, The missiles blasting from their silos in 3.
I don't even really mind that the film recieved a lower rating to get bums on seats but please if this erm "WAR" Movie is to be a proper war movie then lets have the "Directors Cut" unrated version on DVD and a scene where squads of robots have a mass shoot out with an army of resistance foot soldiers. Plus don't skimp on the gore.
7/10 "Not bad but could do better"
dull stupid and kinda felt like the studio had just thrown millions at it in the vague hope it woulbe okay but for me it didnt work and just fell flat on its face, dont waste the time just go and watch t2 instead a far far far far superior movie
I am a HUGE Terminator fan and I loved this movie. It wasn't as good as the first 2 but it was still a great post-apocalyptic movie. I was surprised that Christian Bale was more of a co-lead. However, Same Worthington owned this movie. I hope his character returns for the sequels because he was absolutely fantastic and was the emotional anchor for the whole film. This isn't the best Terminator film ever made but it is extremely solid.
As a stand alone sci-fi action film, this movie would have rocked. But it's part of the Terminator universe, and it just kind of falls flat in that respect. They really failed in the character development. I really like Christian Bale's movies but he was still in Batman mode for this film and that took away from the film for me. Over all, it was just OK, not really bad but not really good either.
Brilliant new beginning to a new terminator saga: lots of non-stop action, plenty of machines, credible characters and a very scandalous score made my day.
I WAS left a bit disappointed. This film felt entirely different from all the previous and felt most of all how Christian Bale's performance had much more to be desired. The film LOOKED great, is overly-riddled with spectacular effects like a Michael Bay movie! I will definitely say that I was entertained from beginning to end, but wish it could have been a stronger more impactful sequel. The PG-13 was also very apparent and probably had some slight negative impact. I definitely plan to check it out once more on DVD in it's hopeful Unrated form, I hope to enjoy it more when that version is available.
Not being crippled by fanboy hysteria, I was able to watch this with pleasure. It is a rock solid action film. It looks quite good, if not as gorgeous as a Ridley Scott could have made it. True, the timeline continuity makes precious little sense, but it flows well enough to sit through it. The complete lack of a sense of humor does the film no favors. Was suprised that Bale wasn't really the lead, and just as well; the new guy is good. Moon Bloodgood lends her considerable (generic) beauty but is no revelation. The explosive intensity Cameron brought to T2 is not here, but that's not to say it stinks. It also doesn't feel like a properly shaped story, yet somehow this is not a turn-off. It's just forward momentum from the get-go. So: not the Citizen Kane of death-bot flicks, but then what is - Saturn 3? Terror of Mechagodzilla?
First of all- it wasn't too bad. It was very entertaining and continued the Terminator Legacy. The Arnie cameo was great and the special effects rocked.Anyone could get a kick out of this, even if you do hate a guy called McG.
But it does have some problems- the first is actually the action. It may be slick, exciting ect. but there is so much of it to the point where you want it to stop so you can catch your breath. Alsoi some of it feels really unneccessary because it takes the place of the story.
But it's an entertaining flick. And yes, the T-800s will be built in 2029, just no one mentioned in the other films that they were the second attempt.
Looking forward to the next one.
I have been waiting for a 4th Terminator film for six years, and I'm glad I finally got it! It had a great storyline, great actors, great special effects, and a great direction! In the year 2003, Marcus Wright is on death row and sign his body over to Skynet for medical research. 15 years later, John Connor is the leader of the Resistance against the machines. He finds out that he is on Skynet's hit list along with his father, Kyle Reese, who is a teenager. Marcus is back and meets Kyle and Star. They try to get to John Connor, but Kyle and Star are captured by a machine and taken prisoner. Marcus reaches John and his crew to tell him about Kyle. We soon find out that Marcus is a terminator who thinks he is human. Marcus helps John by going into the heart of Skynet's headquarters and disable its defenses so John can save Kyle Reese and the other prisoners. They must battle some tough Terminators in order to make it out alive. I highly recommend TERMINATOR SALVATION!!!
I thought this was an awesome movie. It was as good as, if not better, than the others. A very good job was done of tying the other movies into this one. I truly do not get the complaints that it was lacking a "human element." A human element was very much there, particularly in the character of Marcus. I highly recommend this movie.
I am shocked that some people hate this movie. I thought it was the best of the series and had the most serious tone of the films. Bale and Worthington gave this movie a gritty feel that Terminator was in dire need of. I am a big fan of the previous 3. But, this was serious, dark, gritty, dirty and thats exactly what this franchise needed. Anton Yelchin was dead on as Kyle Reese down to movements and facial expressions. Arnold was great in a cameo but, this was not T2. And people should not expect it to be. T2 was a great popcorn action flick. This is a serious action flick with acting muscle to back it.
Visually Amazing, but film fails :(
I have been waiting to see the war since I very fist saw the first, plenty of years ago.
If your looking for a great looking movie but you don't really care for dialog your in for a treat, however if you are a fan of this franchise I would suggest IF YOU CAN give this a miss.
Bale was a dreadful Connor I had no feeling for him what so ever, The machines were weak, Death by shitty machine gun? I think not, the new creation were actually pretty kewl but not enough to save this film. I am totally shocked at the fact, I enjoyed the third alot more, yeah it was pretty cheesy but the story was there and the ending bought a tear to my eye, I'll just wait for season 3 of The Sarah Connor Chron.. much better,
Visually 10/10
Movie as a whole 3/10
Awesome film! Much better than the cheesy third in the series, and I'll be there in line for the next if they go ahead with it. Sure it had some lame parts (like when Connor gets stabbed through the chest yet DOES NOT DIE INSTANTLY!?!), but it's forgivable considering how cool the rest of the movie was. Can't wait to buy the DVD!
In a span of 19 years, the first 3 Terminator
films talked about the inevitable war between man and machine. And in 2009, that war is finally here, and it SUCKED. What a frustrating letdown.
This franchise should've stopped after Judgment Day...
It rocked! idk what the hell more u people wanted! It's the best summer movie yet1!!!(besides Drag Me To Hell)Sam Worthington rocked too and Christian Bale made John Connor feel like a hero instead of that punk in 3! The action was non-stop I even jumped like three times(prolly bc of being so loud) and danifilth 1985 is right...u can't out do T2 and this was about the war! I don't think they could have done it better! Besides 2 its the best so keep on with the terminator's if they are gonna get this good the fourth in.
I've seen the terrible reviews that this movie has gotten, and I really think everyone is missing the point. If you're looking for another T2, look somewhere else. And be honest with yourself, could they really top T2? Few movies have even been able to come close. With that aside, T4 is about the war. So, let me think what they made a movie about....oh yea, the war! What EVERYONE has been ranting about for a decade! Everyone wanted to see it, and now that you got a whole movie about it you complain?! How much plot could they really fit in? The background of the cybernetic skin and the creation of the T-800 we're fairly cool. I think ultimatly this is a "time to play catch-up" movie for a new generation of movie goers. Hopefully they will flesh out more in T5.
But lets be honest. Could the teenagers of today really understand the political and social points of Terminater 2? The answer is probably not. This is a new MTV generation that needs everything fast paced, crazy ass action, and little plot for them to follow. Remember, they watch THE REAL WORLD and think it's real.
Anyway, enough of the rant. For what it was, and what I was expecting, all in all, a great little popcorn flick that shows what I wanted to see (sans fleshed out plot): the war.
I did not want to see this because of you guys. I read your thoughts which generally speaking the user reviews on this site give you a good feel for a film. I was dragged to this one kicking and screaming not wanting to dish out 10 bucks but I did and Im glad I did. I really enjoyed this PG13 terminator. I thought the budget showed clearly and the action never let up. The story moved decent and I was entertained. Which was more than I expected. So having very little faith in this one I give it an 8. I want to see it again. If you watch this film expecting nothing I think you might like it. I did, so for what its worth....
I don't see how there will be a new trilogy; this turkey was dead on arrival, and has yet to pass $100million, which is half its budget. A friend said "anyone who calls themselves McG is reason enough to skip this", and I think he's partially right, but besides some of the underwhelming direction, the script itself doesn't know where it's going. One could even argue that John Conner isn't even the protagonist of the story--it's the half n half, as he's the one who goes through the greatest character arc. While it may have been an interesting idea to play these two against one another, structurally, it just sank the picture. The bit parts gone to Common and Bryce Dallas Howard were pointless--they didn't do anything to service the plot. Anyway, I've written more than the movie is worth wasting time over...
Im actually going to say this had the best war scenes since Saving Private Ryan but Christian Bales always yelling for no reason and i didnt care for characters at all, but i think the series could have a bright future.
If I could give the movie a zero I would. What a fucking waste of time and my 7 bucks, McG and the fans of this movie should be disappointed in themselves for buying into this crap. Just go sit through Star Trek again, or wait for the new Pixar movie. Skip this pile.
so many people feared the pg-13 rating like myself. after seeing the movie the rating didnt really matter cause it didnt effect the movie at all. when you see this movie, atleast for terminator fans, you will either love it or hate it. i loved it. The war that has been teased for three movies is finally here. sure it wasnt movie of the year and it wont win any awards but it makes me excited to see where the series is headed. christian bale did have some batman momentts with his voice but i will forgive him.i only have one complaint (warning spoiler) when john meets arnolds termoinator his reactions is quite dull. i mean you spent some time with this face and he kind of became a father figure and you just sit there as if you had never seen hime before but other then that great movie worth your money.
This movie was PHENOMINAL!!! Ever since I was six years old and I first saw "Terminator 2", I've been waiting for a Terminator film that focuses on the war. THIS was the movie I've been waiting for!! The casting was perfect, the directing was awesome, everyone who doubted McG can suck it. Not to mention, it blew T3 out of the water. If you're a true fan of the Terminator franchise, you'll love it!
Just got done watching the movie this after noon and have to say I liked it. A lot. I don't know why some people are worried about the film not having enough humanity to it to care about the characters, but I feel that if you lived like Connor has and grew up in that time, you have to leave some of the humanity behind. Besides, it's an action movie and believe it delivers quite well on that. Everyone has their opinion and mine is that this movie is really pretty good. Was worried about McG behind the camera, but give him kudos for the job he did.
I really liked this film. I second Guitarded's question to "why all the bitching?"
What more could you want from a terminator film after that horrible T3 and the Tv. Series? I mean really? This series needed to be taken into a new direction!
This film was not perfect, but it was better than alot of movies to come out in recent years.
Being a fan of this series since as far back as I can remember, I've always been intrigued by the War itself when previously we've only been shown glimpses. When thinking about this war, I envision crazy explosions, city's torn down and the human race banding together to fight the machines. Thankfully, McG delivers just that as we're given many memorable action sequences that are truly intense. Not too familiar with his previous work so I never really understood why he gets bashed so much, but all I can judge him on is his work on this and I think he did an excellent job, even working with a bit of a shaky script.
Once again we follow John Connor (now played by Christian Bale) fighting to save humanity and lead the human race to victory. But this time Skynet has a hit list exposed and the only other person above him is his own father (the younger version of him). So John must save him but in trying to do so a bit of a power struggle takes place, which forces him to take things in to his own hands. Bale gives a great performance, he seemed quite focused and dedicated throughout. He has a great water scene where his helicopter crashes (for a 2nd time) and he must defend himself from these snake like machine predators.
Speaking of those, we're introduced to a plenty of new machines and Terminators. From giant destroyers which snatch people up and release motorcycle cyborgs equipped with machine guns to a one of a kind half man half machine Terminator. The movie's story and screen time actually focuses a lot on this one mentioned. Sam Worthington plays Marcus Wright, a convicted killer who is given the death sentence and dedicates his body to science, thus creating the half man half machine. This guy's performance really stands out and is right on par with Bale's. Both these guys get plenty of kick-ass action scenes which make it really hard not to root for them.
But there are parts of the resistance that are harder to root for. Like the beautiful Moon Bloodgood who plays Blair Williams, one of John Connor's soldiers and pilots. She basically has a love story with Marcus as she doesn't find out until late that he's a machine and she decides to go against John Connor's orders simply because she believes in the machine! Kind of weak, but it does lead to some more great explosions and what-not. Other weak players include Common and Bryce Dallas Howard, whose characters are underused and almost non-existent. The shift in separate character stories definitely affected some of the character development, even though everything does connect quite nicely in the end.
So our final battle takes place in the North headquarters of Skynet, where Kyle Reese (John's future/past teen father, played by Anton Yelchin) is being held captive. Also waiting there for John is CGI Arnold! Yes, his Terminator does make an appearance, doesn't deliver a single line but is involved in a major battle. Although, it wasn't much, I couldn't help but the love the fact that he was somewhat involved with yet another entry in the series, real nod to the fans. There's also a few others like John delivering Arnie's famous line "I'll be Back", and instead of robbing bank machines and riding dirt bikes, John hacks into the Skynet headquarters and rides terminator bikes.
I've enjoyed every entry in this series so far in each ones own unique way, and this one could easily be considered one of the best. It's non-stop action from start to finish, and that's just what it should be. It continues the story and connects things back to the original time-line, it's truly entertaining. My personal favorite is Judgement Day and most likely always will be, no other movie in this series will ever match just how epic that one is. Of course, Salvation ends leaving room open for another one, and I think one more could be great if given the right script. I'd love to see Bale return and finish this war, as John says so himself, "we won this battle, but the war is yet to be won". As long as they deliver another battle like this one, you can count me in...
I loved every minute of it... It was suspensful, scary, sad, moving, inspiring, and above all entertaining... It was certainly better than the first, and third, not the second however, but that was a different era, and James Cameron did something that had never before been seen on film.
Good to see the different types of Terminators in the film that's been talked about in the past films. The movie does feel like the beginning of what's to come in future installments. One thing for sure it was not boring not for one minute.Lot's of action and the CGI effects were all well done. The mythology of the Terminator movies were intact and played out well. All the acting felt little flat but ok overall.Make sure you have your popcorn and enjoy the Terminator resurgence!!
Shame on bloody disgusting and all the other extremely negative reviews of this film, most people that have a problem with this film are the same geeks who know every single stupid idiotic detail about star wars, harry potter, star trek and so on...
This is a wonderfully made flim that brings the Terminator film series to the next level and far surpasses anything those films ever did, I enjoy the original trilogy, but i set that thought aside when going to this film, this isnt a schwarzenegger terminator film, so why bother following all the same themes and styles?
this is exactly what intends to be a fun blockbuster action film of the summer, I will NOT see transformers 2 or star trek because it just doesnt look like anything appealing, and yet everybody loves all that stuff for some reason beyond my understanding, i just dont see 1980s toys as a fun action movie these days...
Terminator Salvation delievers big time action and special effects, with dramatic elements and a wonderful story about survival and self discovery of ones purpose in their existence.
This was a treat of a film and I am glad i never listen to the wrongly negative reviews on this website because i would have not seen and loved most movies that I do.
A great refreshing action film that hopefully leads to possibly more GOOD storys for parts 5 & 6 of this series...if the film doesnt do well, i highly doubt they will do a follow up to this.
This is a GREAT Terminator movie. As a huge fan of the entire series, this definitely lives up to the high standards of the others. Also has the best John Connor of them all. Hopefully this is only the beginning of what will be another awesome trilogy.
I’ll start by saying this: overall, I liked the film, but I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. Over the past few months, I became a Terminator junkie of sorts, not quite getting my fill from watching all of the old films and TSCC (RIP!), as well as reading books and comics. On to the film… To me, it wasn’t as bad as some make it, but it definitely wasn’t without flaws. I read the novelization before watching the film, so I pretty much knew what was going to happen – with a few exceptions at the end, which were, for the most part, pretty cool. While the film is bleaker and darker than previous outings, the PG-13 rating seriously hurt the film. The post apocalyptic environment seemed too clean. It looked like sunny California, not like a devastated Earth suffering from nuclear winter. And yeah, there were shots of corpses in a Skynet lab that were used in experiments, but the shots were brief and seemed too “clean.” Most of the deaths of humans appeared sterile, as well, including the killing of the guy trying to escape the holding pens for humans and John Connor’s helicopter pilots at the very beginning of the film who get killed by T-600s (I assume). Too little blood for the killing machines we are used to, especially when you think of the first Terminator film! This is what is ruining this franchise faster than anything, I think! It doesn’t have to be a gore-filled torture porn flick, but a little blood spilling would give it the edge it’s missing.
The ending annoyed the hell out of me! A few people involved with the film should get “terminated” for thinking up such a lame ending. I thought it was absolutely awful, and it differed completely from the novelization – and in a bad way. John nearly gets killed and Marcus Wright just so happens to have a suitable heart to give him. How fracking lame! Kate, John’s wife, was a veterinarian in T3, too! What a bleak future for mankind when in a triage tent you can get a heart transplant!!! Killing off Marcus Wright like that was a waste and killed the suspension of disbelief, imo. It would have been better to end the story as the novel did.
The acting was ok, but not great. I’m not a big fan of Christian Bale. Even in the Batman films, his gravelly voice really gets on my nerves. But that said, I guess he did ok with the dialogue he was given. I wonder if Nick Stahl would have been better reprising the role of John Connor? I think the guy that played young Kyle Reese (forgot his name) did a good job.
The CG was great. I can’t imagine a sci-fi flick without CG now. The various minions of Skynet seemed “believable” and looked real enough. And the nuke explosions looked good too. The devastated scenes of L.A. were likewise well done. The best CG is when the T-800 shows up near the end! It was a ode to the first film, and I loved it! But it all could have been darker.
I hope future films give us more of a war (no doubt there will be more films!). This wasn’t the sci-fi war flick that I’ve wanted to see ever since the first Terminator film where we saw Kyle’s flashback of the future. His flashback was dark, grim, and bleak – not sunshine and fun in the desert. I want to see the armies of Skynet and the human guerrillas going at it toe to toe in what’s left of the world. This film just didn’t give it. While it was pretty consistent with the Terminator world and overall an entertaining film, it needed something more to make it a great film.
Don't listen to the haters, because they don't know shit. You want boring, try watching chick flicks. This movie had action from the start to the end, the 1hr 55mins flew. I was pissed that it was PG-13 but I have to say you don't even know. It's so fuckin violent for a PG-13 film it's up there with Knowing and The Dark Knight. Now this is how PG-13 films should be. It even have a cloverfield nod in it.
Everybody is entitled to there words. So go out with out listening to the negatives and think for yourself. I can't wait for the next ones. And this is by far the best movie MCG did.
Thanks MCG for keeping it cool and fun.
Also. I mean this would all you people shut the fuck up that it's not like a terminator film. Because it is. It would get pretty damn boring seeing the same shit terminators go back try to kill john connnor WOW YAWNNNNN... This film reinvents it and keeps it in the future. Which is awesome.
Where to begin.....this movie was shit. This PG-13 atmosphere was BULLSHIT. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A WAR........not some Sci-Fi origianl piece of shit. Remember Terminator part 1 when Arnold walked in and blasted the fuck out of that police station? That COOLNESS is what this waste of celluloid is lacking. Fucking Burger King and Slurpees had to get involved so they dumb it down for the teeny-boppers...
There was nothing redeeming about this movie at all.....If I ever see McG on the street, I'm gonna bitch slap him and steal his purse to get my wallet back.
This was a lot worse then I thought it was going to be, and my expectations were already low. I was so bored I was checking my watch and I never do that in a movie theater. I couldn't wait until it ended. I hate to say this, but T3 was better.
I just got back from a midnight screening. Its a solid entry into the franchise. Its loud, its big, and it has some great thrills. I also liked that they kept the T-800 in the film. My first complaint is that Bale's performance is a little lifeless. The character Marcus played by Sam Worthington out performs John Connor in every way. My final observation or gripe is that the film offers little to no background, so if you are not familiar with the franchise you will be lost. This may be a problem for the studio if they wanted to create new fans.

Fantastic film...shows the very early stages of the war. They didn't even have plasma rifles yet.
It was great seeing the earlier Terminators (T-600) then the badass T-800 at the end.
i donno guys why dont u just get it..McG saved the franchise believe me... he's young and very fucking awesome director specially in Terminator Salvation..the movies is prequel to original ..so it makes since.. first 45 minutes was about marcous and then the real Terminator Begins..i didnt feel boring ever in this movie and was very nice .. i didnt get disappointment cus its a war between humans and machines .. so dont fucking care about negative Reviews..the best part was the SUPRISE thing about the Cameo Character and i think u know about who im talking about..?!? .. the end was very good and im really exited for the next one in 2011 but i hope james cameron share Mcg together to make legend terminator
I am a big fan of the franchise and this film desn't even feel like it's a sequel. It's a terrible Terminator film and a mediocre action sci-fi film but ultimately it's ridiculously stupid and forgettable with just too many inexcusable lapses in logic. It's just too silly and underdeveloped to be taken seriously or even to come across offensively. It's ok.
1st off, I am a HUGE fan of the original terminator films! the 1st film i was when i was just a kid and scared the hell out of me when i saw the terminator as the robotic skeleton, the 2nd film was just an AMAZING action flick! and i actually enjoyed the 3rd cause it was a pretty decent action flick. So going into the 4th one a) i was excited that im actually gettin to see a new terminator film in the theatre b) im a big christian bale fan (but i put that aside for the film) and i must say, i LOVED this new terminator film! it's very hard for me to choose a fav from the 1st two and this one, the 3rd is def in last place for me even though i enjoyed it. But terminator 4 was such a fun ride and actually explained/answered some thing and actually took a few shots from the old films (which i really liked). for a movie thats 2 hrs & 10 mins it went pretty fast for me cause its so fun and just a great film. And the part where they show the arnie terminator everyone just started clappin and it was sick seeing that, even though u know its CG it is so exciting seeing that. without giving anything away (hopefully i didnt) the movie is just a great action flick and a fun ride! definatly worth the see! (not to mention Moon Bloodgood is GORGEOUS!!)
As a general rule I try to separate a film's hype from its finished product enough as possible. However, when it comes to a sequel I believe all bets are off, since discounting the hype would also have to mean discounting everything that happened in all of the films preceding it.
There is no doubt that original film and its first sequel (crafted by James Cameron) were both as groundbreaking, action packed and iconic as they were philosophical and human. I heard once that they made a third installment though I'm pretty sure it must have been a practical joke because all I saw was 2 straight hours of Arnie looking into the camera to give self-deprecating one liners.
For better or worse T3 marked a turning point for the series, for most people (myself included) it marked the point at which the series couldn't go any lower, and I thought a lot about what this would mean for Salvation before going into it. It means that at the film's best it should live up to everything the first two films had us expecting of the future wars, or at the worst all it has to be is at least better than Rise Against the Machines
Now - full disclosure - I was never really comfortable with idea of McG at the helm of this one, but just as honestly I can say I really tried to give him a chance. I figured if the script was solid and the performances were solid there was no way he could mess it up. But the most disappointing thing about his choice as the films director is that the script WAS solid and the acting WAS superb and HE STILL MESSED IT UP.
It's not too much to ask a director to find a few simple moments to really allow their characters emotional stakes to land. You'd think this would be especially important to anyone directing a film about humanities fight against an army of invincible, unfeeling machines. The least you would expect to see is a little... well humanity. Cameron knew this very well and the first two films are spotted with moments of honest human emotion. Who could forget "I came across time for you, Sarah" or Sarah fighting the urge to pull the trigger over Miles Dyson. It's moments like these that let us connect with the characters and therefore raises the stakes for us about their survival. That right there is action film 101, but the sad thing is that I'm pretty sure this film had plenty of these (both scripted AND filmed), they were just left on the cutting room floor.
It's brutal to have to see the truly impressive performances of Anton Yelchin and Sam Worthington cut short and spliced as segues between action scenes. The one scene that had me excited most of all about this film was when John Connor has to show Marcus Wright that he isn't a person as he thinks he is. Just think of the potential of a scene like this, the philosophical questions it poses about what it means to be human, coupled with the raw emotional performance delivered by Worthington... too bad they showed more of it in the trailer than in the actual film. Not only was it cut short it wasn't even cut well. It really stood out as one of several scenes in the movie that felt obviously trimmed to make room for more scenes with CG robots. It's chase scene after chase scene with no stakes and no brains... it's Charlie's Angels when a better director could have given us Judgment Day.
There are plenty of smaller things I could nit pick over that range from everything from how I thought the design of the early Terminator models could have been better to moments where you can't help but cry bullshit, like how Katherine Brewster (a veterinarian) somehow has the skill to pull off heart transplant surgery or how the EM pulse emitted by a nuclear explosion doesn't disable the fleeing helicopter, but these are things that perhaps wouldn't have stood out so much if the film had been better to begin with.
There are a number of redeeming things none the less. The performances in particular were surprisingly poignant if under utilized. The action sequences were for the most part flashy and fun and I still like the fundamental idea for the story, though they clearly could have given John Connor a little more to do, and it manages to form a foundation for the forthcoming sequels though albeit not a great one.
In the end it lived up to one of the two scenarios it could have... it was only at least better than T3. Some audiences will shrug and say "so what?" and those of us who believed in what this film could have been will just have to shrug and say "now what?"
Shit barely begins to describe this flick. I personally DID think it f*cked with terminator mythology simply by having the Worthington character in the first place. The script was like Van Helsing bad (dialogue was so over-the-top terrible it had the audience, and myself, laughing on far too many occasions and the story was insanely boring and dumb... and jesus christ dont get me started on the last 10 minutes of the movie... HOLY SHIT how the hell did the person who wrote that fucking dribble EVER get hired for this movie). Putrid acting too except you cant really blame them for such a horrid production (I forgive you christian bale, they obviously gave you a truck full of gold bars to be in this movie) ...SO SO SO disappointed overall -- hell i'de almost say I liked T3 better except the one or two nifty (albeit transformer like) action scenes were pretty impressive visually and T3 didn't even have that going for it (only reason i give it a 2 instead of 1). I hate spoilers and so I wont go into details... but there are quite a few glaringly obvious and horribly bad plot holes in the flick as well.
McG is a fucking douche and never again will I be tricked into seeing one of his movies... Hell, at least charlies angels had nice T&A to stare at.
If you want a good action christian bale flick -- go watch Equilibrium or obviously Dark Knight. Terminator must be seen ONLY as a joke to be laughed at with your friends and remember to keep your expectations LOOOW.
this movie was boring, it didn't feel like terminator at all...in fact i felt like i was watching transformers or something. christian bale was boring, and annoying as john connor. the only thing good about this movie were the effects, but it was all just ridiculous. a big waste of time in my opinion
It is what it is. Pretty cool to watch. McG changed the ending, thank GOD. There are several visually stunning moments. The effects were freakin' awesome! On a positive note, this film stays pretty true to Terminator mythology without screwing it up the way the television program does. On kind of a downer, the PG-13 hurts...you REALLY can feel the difference...
I was a big skeptic on this one, but I'm comfortable with the way it turned out. Not as good as I'd hoped, not as bad as I'd feared.
