I saw this on showtime and it was the most devestating, shocking, disturbing movie dealing with child abuse I've seen. The acting was top notch and it was nicely filmed. Catherine Keener gives one of her darkest performance to date, and Ellen Page gives an emotionally challenging performance as abused Sylvia Likens. I read some information about this case on the internet and what they showed on film doesn't even come close to what they really did to her in that basement and it just made me sick to my stomach and sad. This is an important movie to see and I don't know why they didn't release this movie to theaters. Recommended!

this movie makes my stomach turn and it was hard for me not to cry. I loved it though and thought it should have been in the theaters. too bad it wasn't.

This was a good movie even though it was hard to believe somebody let this happen in their basement. Worth Watching

This film was not only deeply disturbing in nature, but was actually shot and produced well enough to drive that feeling deep into you. Certain parts were very hard to sit through, simply because of the combination of unnerving brutality and the surrealism involved in a suburban and her children torturing another young girl. Ellen Page and Katherine Keener are both wonderful as always, and I would suggest this film only to those with strong stomachs, and strongly suggest it to those interested in true-crime shockers, as it is by far one of the best of that genre that I have seen in some time now.

One of the saddest movies since IRREVERSIBLE. amazing and really tough to watch. IMO, better than THE GIRL NEXT DOOR.
