The first was great, the second was a dissapointment, but The Grudge 3 is a total succes! This movie is a spooky, scary as hell thriller, with disturbing scenes and some amazing CGI action. The Grudge 3 is a wonderful movie. So, don't listen to the lame reviews down below, and get this movie. If your a fan of the previous two, you'll adore this adition to the series! I just hope they don't ruin this triligy with a fourth.
After the tedious and unnecessary predecessors, I was a bit skeptical about the next entry and not too keen about viewing it. Then when I heard some positivity surrounding the IMDB boards, I had little faith. I also realized that this was the director of the horror indie flick, Splinter, which was awesome, so my expectations started to rise. Like I expected, this was a solid installment and the franchise needed this sequel or the franchise would have been dead.
I don't know why there are mixed or negative things to say about the film. It was everything you could want a horror film, or sequel, to be. It had an original script, despite the grudge concept. It had some strong characters that were anti-stereotypical and actually showed off some decent performances. The movie actually had real character development rather than jump scare after jump scare, or kill after kill. We got enough breathers, without taking away from the film.
It was also a bonus the film warranted an R rating. I was actually pleased that the film didn't consist of useless gore, solely made for gratuitous display. The film contained more blood which seemed to have a nice flow and was cohesive with the film and the deaths. The only major complain I have was the ending. It was so cliche and has been recycled so many times, that I wonder if an original ending will come along. I know that endings don't always have to be satisfying or have a happy ending, but the ending has been recycled so many times.
Overall, I really enjoyed this installment and prefer it over the tedious and cliche-driven predecessors. This one was an actually sensible and clever film that was original and simultaneously entertaining. An enthralling experience all around.
trust me, if you are a grudge fan you WILL love this movie...dont listen to these haters who have no clue what good J-horror really is...this is it! the creepy whitish blue people and jumps movieround give you that scared the shit out of pants feeling!
i thought it was simply just okay, the charachters werent really developed very well though didnt really wind up caring about them, and Shawnee smith was so under used, BUT there are one or two good scares in it, so maybe give it a watch if nothing else better to do
This movie is a good example of modern horror , unlike the other 2 USA versions this one is relitavly easy to understand!! i gave it this mark coz it lacks gore and takes a little time to kick in but other than that it deserves more credit than its got and SHOULDVE reached cinemas in thee UK
I thought by the trailer that this was just gonna be terrible.Another series to go bad on dtv but I gotta say....it was the best! Kinda like a ghost story still but this one felt like a bloody slasher too.idk, maybe just me but I loved it! Bring on the new Grudge!
Do NOT be fooled by the film's AWFUL trailer. This movie rocks!!! By FAR the BEST and the BLOODIEST of the American Grudge films. Instead of Sarah Michelle Gellar and a PG-13 pussyfooted crapfest, you get Shawnee Smith and an R rating. Nuff said.
much much better than expected. i LOVED it. it had an interesting plot, good scares, and stayed faithful to the first movies while expanding on the mythology.
It certainly "looks" great (probably originally intended as theatrical release) but ultimately goes nowhere, adds ZERO freshness, and ends up being a rehash of the far superior Grudge. I appreciated that they tried to keep the mythology and tie it all together, but finding an "ending" to the curse and closing what was started in Grudge 2 would have been better. The acting was just okay (the actors had very little to work with). The script and especially the direction lacked much polish - no tension, no surprises, and every scene lingered three or four beats too long. Most annoying? The ghosts were soooooo over lit and the camera lingered on them soooooo long. Obviously the approach was to leave absolutely nothing to the imagination, which is precisely where good horror lies.
I actually thought this movie was alot, ALOT better than the 2nd, that was dreadfull but not in a good way like other movies, This one was enjoyable yeah not so "original" but what is these days? yeah pretty good ermmm 7 I think?
Totally ass. Unimaginative. This borders on self-parody. It fails to create the suspense, tension and the sheer feeling of disquietude the originals established.
And why are they using the same kid? He's like 12 now or something. He just plain looks too old and awkward. Not at all creepy.
Not to mention the make up sucks too. Rather than looking dead, it literally looks like they're decked out in white make up and mascara.
Skip this one. Hold out for the new Japanese ones.
