An ok slasher that's way too familiar. This was like I Know What You Did Last Summer meets the original Friday The 13th but not as good. I thought it had fantastic scenery that made a good atmosphere throughout but I think they didn't quite take full advantage of it. I thought the kills were ok but could of been gorier and it could of had a little bit more action to speed up the pace a bit because it was a little slow moving in some parts. The acting was good enough although it was dubbed but I have no complaints in this department. Overall it's pretty much a rehash of 90's slashers which makes it less effective and not really thrilling but definitely a better slasher than the recent Friday The 13th remake. Rent it or not it doesn't matter you're not missing out.
Sure, it's a 'I know what you did...'-Ripoff, but a good one. Great actors, great atmosphere, nice killings - although I think that this movie was especially made for an Austrian audience. Austrians love it because it's the first Austrian slasher movie, non-Austrians think it's just an average slasher.
The first time I watched In Drei Tagen Bist Du Tot (Dead in 3 Days), I thought that it was disappointing. The second time, I do not know what to make of it. It is obvious that it is a complete rip-off of I Know What You Did Last Summer, but, you know what, this is done better. Only by a small margin, though. People say that many elements of American culture crosses over into Europe, and that is true. Unfortunately, one of those elements was mindless, teenie slasher films. But, here are the pros about this film. First, the film really is well-shot. The shots they use successfully set up the scariness and creepiness the scenes needed. The town is creepy and glum itself. The establishing shot of the town with the mountains overlooking it is beautiful, making it look like one of those things that is like “Big Brother is Watching”. Another positive about this movie is the gore. This movie is pretty bloody for a slasher film that only has five get killed, including the killer, and two people almost dying. Now for the many cons. First, the violence is mindlessly childish. The best way to describe this film is a movie with R-rated gore, but with PG-13 violence, something that you might see from a film like Pulse or When a Stranger Calls. The violence is one area where I Know What You Did Last Summer one-ups this film. In fact, most of the kills were childish too. Because of that, I feel that I must rank the kills, and I only do that when the kills are few or are very tame. This film contains both elements. Number six, when the killer is stabbed by Nina and just falls into the lake. She does not move and expresses no pain or emotion. Number five, when Martin is drowning. This kill was better than number six only because he is struggling for his life. Otherwise, the kill is tame. Number four, when Clemens is stabbed by the killer. He had a fucking gun! How does someone who is holding a gun lose to a person holding a knife? Pathetic. Number three, when the creeper kid is killed. His character is almost so pointless, that he should not have been killed. He is only in the film for filler. Number two, when the deer is run over. Yes, the deer’s kill is better than the over four. It is fucking sad. Number one, of course, is when Alex is lowly decapitated with the fish tank. It was a cool, disturbing kill, and the only good kill. I am not including when Nina is killed by the nurse in her dreams because it is POINTLESS. And, if it weren’t for Alex’s death, the deer would take the number one spot, and that would make me dislike this film even more. Second, the pacing is not like what I expected it to be. I imagined it to be a little faster, but it is too slow for me to be completely engaged. Third, this film suggests some subplots that do not even matter. It suggests two subplots that involve jealousy, like the creeper kid liking Nina, and the girl who takes off her shirt in front of her wheelchair-bound dad liking Martin. They suggest the subplot involving the creeper kid, who is only in the film for two scenes and gets killed. He was almost a useless character. And they suggest the girl liking Martin for only one scene and they never suggest it afterwards. It is just toying with the minds of the viewers. Now, the movie is not completely bad, but if you want to watch it, I ask you to proceed with caution.
A spin off of one particular American horror movie, but not horrible. For some reason, I'm starting to think that foreign countries have better actors??
The actors in this are not shabby and are even likable.
A suble surprise. This is Austria's first mainstream horror - a slasher film that doesnt try to be more. Although dubbed, it wont distract negatively. Its shot in a very captivating, dreamlike fashion that slips the story into your mind well and makes it very 420 friendly. Director Andreas Prochaska crafted this excellently for the first half, doing as much with the story as could be done to make it fresh. Warning however - 2nd half dragged and reduced itself to mediocrity.
The kills were pretty good. One girl gets her head sawed off on the edge of a chipped glass plate pretty gruesomely, and the innocent boyfriend drowning chapter was incredibly depressing and morbid. The first half morphs into a fair second half and ending, where unseen story twists and drawn out deaths one by one give this a 6 out of 10 skulls in my book.
FINAL WORDS: Fresh faces, new style, foreign film, murder and young nudity. Besides being a plot that was old 10 years ago, Dead in 3 Days strikes the common slasher film right between the eyes.
And for the people who dont understand why its a 6 out of 10, why BD gave it a decent review - go out and watch some of the slasher crap we've been forced to sit through. Dead in 3 Days spared me another attempted suicide, and thats pretty good when you've seen the plot 1000 times.
this movie for some reason reminded me of a foreign "i know what you did last summer",it was boaring, had many"patsy"set ups,and not very much gore at all, its ok if you wanna see it once i guess but dont expect much other than some cute girls(which is cool with me but doesnt make a movie).
After being excited and anticipating
it for a long while now I have founf
myself even more disappointed as a result of it.
What exactly is all the hype of this movie
about? This is one of the most dull, boring,
worthless pieces of crap I've had the displeasure
of seeing. I cannot believe I wasted my time
on this. I am a big fan of horror but this is not
horror--this is a pathetic Austrian version of
I Know What You Did Last Summmer or something
to that ill effect. Do not waste your time on this piece of utter crap. You might be better off watching The Grudge 3 or some shite
In fact this is an austrian film and I´m an austrian too, all I can tell you is: wait for part 2!!! I saw it last authum and it´s much much better than the first one.
This was definitely a forgettable film. I actually mistook this for Cold Prey in the store the other day. Both were lousy in my opinion. Anyone who compares this to Inside, Frontiers of Let The Right One In should be gagged, bound and tortured until death. It's an insult to make such a statement.
Are you kidding me with the bloody-disgusting review?! If you like contemporary foreing movies try: "Let the right one in" or "Frontier(s)" or "Inside"... at least this three movies have something special. But Dead In 3 Days?!?! The story was such a piece of crap. And the ending was a slap on the face.
I really don't know why its got such great ratings - its a little bit like an intellectual exercise in horror, which never ever works with a slasher concept. U need excitement and this one is just so tame and dull - I only loved the last scene on the boat.Jap Horror and Dutch slasher just don't go down well together - its borrowed a lil from Takashi Mike's ONE MISSED CALL but the comparison ends there.
I digged this film. I don't know why, but foreign slasher films seem to get it right despite it being the same formula. So far, this film, Cold Prey and Let the Right One In and THEM and of course INSIDE are remarkable foreign horror films.
not impressed. in fact, im rather insulted by the review on the back of the dvd by "bloody-disgusting.com" and this is the greatest website ever, but wow...just boring and nothing going on. DO NOT buy.....
A very forgettable movie. It's not horrible, but it just lacks any sort of energy as it goes through its motions. We're introduced to some potentially interesting characters early in the movie and then they are ultimately left to blend together. The already few death scenes are robbed of any excitement (the fish tank kill mentioned in the BD review is really tame) and the story is devoid of mystery. Thoroughly average in all aspects.
