Not a horror movie, but a solid action film. Bacon did a great job, and so did James Wan.

LOVED this movie.
Showed this to alot of my friends and everyone of them enjoyed it aswell~
The middle of the movie (when Lucas and Helen are killed) is the best part of the movie, major plot twist and you think it's other until Nicolas ends up hospitalized. everything just gets better from that point. Good plot and great choice in actors.
The only few downfalls of the movie is:
Unessacery Cussing - cussing in movies is fine with me,but when you over do it...it gets a bit annoying. But hey,it had gangsters in the movie,so it had a light excuse for some of it.
Crying scene - The character does a really dumb on crying in one part, not gonna lie.
A little too overexaggerated on some bloody scenes - A few parts here the blood is exaggerated, especially the shot were someone gets shot with a shot gun,I know shotguns are extremley powerful but it's a bit much to just fly across a room.
But in all I give it a ten, just because I never got tired of seeing this movie even after watching it 12 times in a row.
i can't tell you how much i hated this movie. i went it to this movie blind. i was like i want to go to the movie and was like O that is a cul poster. that's about all it has going for it.
This film is literally PACKED with incredibly stupid moments, but if you can turn off your brain and promise yourself to only watch this movie once in your lifetime you will find some enjoyment here.
The violence is good and Kevin Bacon does deliver in the role of the typical family-man-turned-vigilante, but other than that this film is pretty awful.
So my advice would be just to focus on those two things and literally ignore everything else (like a WHITE inner-city gang with a token black guy LOL).

Reminds me a bit of the whole revenge thrillers that had people like charles bronson in it, although kevin bacon is a much better more intense and serious actor than bronson, he cant change the fact that the material is nothing that new or different, when you have a revenge movie, something so horrific has to happen to characters you care about to actually feel and understand the revenge even more.
example i felt a better revenge film was the brave one.
this is the second dud that these guys made with dead silence being the other disapointing one.
"No logic but lots of action, violence, gunfights and gore in this one. There is very little meat on the story-bone and in times where, thanks to TV, everyone is an expert on police procedures the lack of logic is almost appalling. But throw the CSI-knowledge over board and you're in for a crazy and entertaining ride. Nicely shoot with some great camera movement Wan is shooting stuff to pieces almost like Hong Kong directors did in the early '90s. No marksmen here, but who cares, this is pure pleasure for the eyes. Kevin Bacon delivers nicely and adds a whole new facet to the dad-on-a-rampage character. There's even a little "Taxi Driver" in him – and not only because of his gun and hairstyle.
If this is your poison go give Death Sentence a try." -- oak-, imdb.com
I’m not going to lie, the first hour bored me. But after that (after the head-shaving scene) the movie picked up to the amazing level I expected from James Wan. It was much bloodier than I expected, and the very ending made me laugh—but I think it was meant to. The “Yeah, so, where do you want it?” scene in the near-end was very well done. Overall, it wasn’t as great as Saw, but it wasn’t bad at all.
