a bad effort for a remake!!

Hey another remake! This time it has absolutely nothing to do with the original, has lots of hot naked chicks in and has a great cast that ultimately looks like they'd rather be taking a crap than being in front of the camera.

When I heard this movie essentially starred Crispin Glover, Brad Dourif and Jeffrey Combs I was stoked but, holy god, are their performances lacking any hint of depth. Such great actors cast in awkward roles. Glover's fun to watch on occasion, but it's a far cry from even his Back to the Future skills.

The twist was lame too and super obvious. Why does a movie with such a simple plot need to appear so convoluted?

An intelligent (but trippy and confusing) script helps to obscure the budgetary constraints.

Not Bad But Not Great

I want to start off by saying that the 1970 original is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. Now, I was excited to see the remake, because I thought it would just be an updated version of the original. Better deaths, better looking gore, etc.

How disappointed I was. Other than the fact that a magician named "Montag the Magnificent" kills girls on stage who turn out to be okay (only not really), is the ONLY similarity between the two.

In the remake, there's a new subplot dealing with drugs (that doesn't really make any sense). The main character's development throughout the movie doesn't make any sense either. Although they have the ability to make the deaths more realistic, they didn't really use it. They wasted their effects budget on the weird screen thing that covers the "act".

The acting is awful. Now I'm aware that doesn't say a lot in horror, but this movie's acting was horrible for horror standards.

I'm a huge fan of the Suicide Girls, and I really like how they have alternative models, etc. The Suicide girls play the victims in this movie. But, really that just means they show their nude bodies and then get torn apart in some lame way.

And I think the worst part of this movie was that it was boring. When I watched the original, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I loved it, and thought it was brilliant. This movie was so boring, I couldn't wait for it to be over. (And when it finally did, the ending didn't make sense).

Basically: Bad acting, Bad plot, Bad characters, Boring, Slow-moving, and nothing like the original.

My recommendation? Watch the 1970 classic. Skip this one. Seriously.

I was expecting so much more from this film and it let me down in many ways. It still wasnt horrible though. It was interesting and different. I will say Crispin Glover did a good job though I think at the part.

Crispin Glover was the best thing about this film, it was very interesting in some aspects but overall it was disapointing, mainly due to the uninteresting main character and his "50s" wardrobe and all that stuff, the movie has alot of gore, and alot of magic stuff, and that was fun, but i felt uninterested in the main character, and was pretty much only entertained by Crispin Glover's performance, had the film had a different main character a slightly different plot, and the way it all unfolds and it's pace, it would have been better, but overall i wanted to like this movie, but i cant say i do, but i also cant say i hated it either...

I enjoyed this a lot. It starts off badly, but once it really get going it's a very interesting film.

BOOO!!! I rented this one, loving the original and i must say wow what a horrible remake. to start this film is really boring, even when the suicide girls are getting slaughtered on stage you get bored. another thing is the KILLS! not really gory at all, no chainsaw gore cheaply splashing a women the face or anything!!
and by the end you will be extremely pissed cause unlike the violent death montag had in the 1970 version his death is off screen and stupid. on the plus side the story is good and twisted and crispin glover as montag the magnificant was the perfect choice!
so bypass this movie at all costs!!! go rent POSTAL an awesome movie instead!!
