Final Blog

I just wanted to wish all the BD readers a fond farewell. Bloody Disgusting and I have parted ways and this will be my final blog here. As you know BD works tirelessly to bring you all your horror news, I am happy and proud to have been a part of the BD family for over 4 years, but the time has come to for me to move on.

One last thing, a personal message to Mr. Disgusting:
Brad
Thank you for all the wonderful opportunities you gave to me, from the interviews to the videos, junkets, red carpets, parties and especially for giving me a chance to meet some of the readers of BD. I know you will continue to do a kick ass job!

Alien Raiders and Repo extended CD release and me on Repo Radio
7:32pm, February 16, 2009

Tomorrow is a big day

1. ALIEN RAIDERS: Alien Raiders is unleashed onto the world at your local DVD store. Yes, it sounds like lame ass Sci-Fi channel movie, but underneath the title is a pretty kick ass alien film. I had a great time with it when I saw it back in October. (I begged the director to change the title…but no luck, the studio named it)
2. REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA EXTENDED CD RELEASE: Finally here is the long awaited official release of the films music and more. I understand that its going to be hitting all the HOT TOPIC stores…so run out and pick it up there…call them today to find out if they are going to have it.
3. REPO RADIO: I am doing my first guest appearance on the Repo radio show tomorrow night (Tuesday the 17th) at 7:30pm. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/RBR/2009/02/18/Extended-Soundtrack Tune in and hear me talk further about the movie that has been gaining a huge worldwide cult following. Friday is finally here!
5:46am, February 13, 2009

Happy Friday The 13th!

I expect that all of you will be seing the new film this weekend, and commenting and reviewing the film here at BD!.

If you happen to live in LA, a bunch of horror fans are going to the 10:10pm screening at the Sherman Oaks Arclight. Get your tickets early though, as it will most likely sell out (if it hasn't already).

Also I heard that a big group of fans is going to the 8:00pm at the Chinese, but I am opting for the Arclight

See YOU tonight!!

Repo VS Rocky
3:43pm, January 28, 2009

At this point anyone reading this knows that I am a huge fan of Repo! The Genetic Opera. You may also know that I just returned home from the Repo Road Tour where I was helping out with the pre-show and autographs and merch table. I just wanted to comment about what we saw while on tour. At almost every stop, The local Rocky Horror cast members and fans showed up to see what the hell this Repo movie is. In Michigan the Rocky cast was a major part of our evening, so much so that me and co-creator Darren Smith ended up at a house party with them until about 5am after the film! In Phoenix the Rocky Cast performed a Repo song in the Rocky costumes and did a mashup of the two films! And most importantly across the country Rocky fans actually played a part in helping us plan the tour and were involved in the locations and hotels, and organization.

Now the big question… Will Repo replace Rocky?
The answer is a resounding NO!

The creators of Repo never intended it to be a replacement for Rocky and never assumed or intended it to infringe on Rocky’s stomping ground. Now, the similarities do exist, and the fans certainly have a major crossover, but The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a sacred phenomenon that cannot be duplicated. Even the Rocky creators tried to duplicate it with a sequel called Shock Treatment, and it never quite clicked the same way. It’s available on DVD for those of you who are curious.

Throughout the tour I was asking Rocky fans if they thought that Repo would be embraced or shunned by the long time Rocky Horror fan. In almost every instance the people I spoke with told me that they were happy to have Repo come along and liked the idea of something new coming out of the woodwork that appeals to them. The Repo movement is in its infancy and is growing fast, but rest assured Repo is not trying to replace Rocky.

About a year ago, after Repo was done filming and was in the editing stage, Darren Bousman, Terrence Zdunich and I brought some friends to go see Rocky Horror at the Nuart in Santa Monica CA. They did their thing onstage to what looked like a sold out audience. Callbacks, shadowcasts, dancing, singing, devirgin-izing. The biggest surprise to me was how young the audience was, ranging from 13 to 40 years old, a good number of the players were very young! Many of the people in attendance were not even born when the film came out. The callback lines that are shouted throughout the film have been firmly in place for years and have changed and evolved slightly. Over the years the call backs have become a part of the soundtrack to Rocky Horror. Rocky Horror has been released with the Audience Participation track on CD and DVD.

Now Repo is beginning to have a similar effect on audiences, but this time the audience is creating the callbacks live in the theater. During a few of the Repo Road Tour stops there was so much shouting at the screen that you couldn’t even hear what was happening on screen! It was so amazing to see it first hand, listening to the crowd embrace the film and make it their own.

We are getting reports of Repo DVD parties all over the country, Repo army members are befriending each other and spreading the word as a group. Fan films are flooding youtube, Repo shadow casts are holding auditions and forming very solid troupes of performers, there are Repo radio shows, chat rooms, blogspots, fan artwork, and the costumes that fans are creating are nothing short of amazing. All of this, and the movie was only released on a few screens last November. You can now see it for yourself on DVD (if you can find it, its sold out in many markets).

Only time will tell if Repo has as much of a lasting impact as the unstoppable Rocky Horror Picture Show, but if the RepoRoadTour 3 was any indication of what is has become, I feel that we can look forward to much more Repo goodness in the near future.

The busiest day of the year!
4:49am, January 23, 2009

I just want to sleep for more than 2 hours at a time
planes dont count

Yesterday we were up at 6am to watch the academy award announcements, then out the door a few hours later to catch our plane.
Plane was delayed 1 and a half hours because of a technical malfunction, they eventually decided to fly anyways with out fixing it. After getting the luggage and rental car we drove an hour directly to The Michigan Theatre where they had already started seating the fans.

We had 2 street team members selling our stuff for us. My parents were there with my sister Shannon and my nephew Caleb, I said hello and within 15 minutes or so of arrival I was onstage hosting the pre-show to a great audience of loud cheers! Darren Smith was in town and helped me with the costume contest. The stars got onstage and introduced the film, and the movie started….

The audience was amazing, I have not heard this many callbacks to the film at any stop on the tour. They were loud boisterous and having a great time. This is due in no small part to the local Rocky Horror Cast called Painted Perversion really keeping the audience lively. They were great!

At this point, I have not eaten cleaned up or even fixed my makeup before arriving!

About 30 minutes or so into the film I sat down with my parents and noticed that my Mom was hiding her eyes through the entire film, my 10 year old nephew was eating it up and seeming to enjoy it, my Dad was tolerant and my sister thought it was too gory but watching. I grabbed my mom and brought her into the lobby to hang out and skip the movie that she really was not enjoying. We hung out in the lobby until the end and the guys did the Q&A for a good 45 minutes. Then we set up the autograph session and stayed until the very last person had gotten theirs.

My family left for home and I took a bunch of pictures of the fans on the stage getting autographs. Then when it was over we packed up and loaded the car. Darren Bousman drove us back to the hotel where I was to clean up and get back to the bar to meet Terrence and Darren Smith who were hanging out with the fans…… but then we got pulled over by a cop, for not using a turn signal. He took Bousman’s, mine and Bill Moseley’s IDs and made us wait in the car while he did his thing for about 30 minutes. He let us go without a ticket but now it was late and I needed to get back to the bar before closing time to see what Terrence and Darren Smith were planning, so still without food and without cleaning up I drove back to the bar and met up with the guys,

About 10 minutes after arriving the bar closed and a bunch of people went to the home of the Rocky Horror cast members. Darren Smith and I chilled for an hour or so with the gang and had a really great time meeting some great people. We took pictures and videos and then said our good byes,

Darren didn’t know how to get back to the hotel, so he followed me, then when he was parked I left and went to the local gas station to get a gross sandwich, my first bit of food since 11:30am. Its now 4:30 I am beat, and afraid if I go to sleep I wont wake up on time to get up at 8:00am

My brain is fried, my stomach is unhappy, but tonight was an amazing night, possibly the second best of the tour!

Tomorrow we have a convention to attend and a screening in Phoenix, my good friends Paula and Chris will be there as well, so it will be fun. Then start over, to get back to LA for the final night! Almost 50 fans are flying in for the LA show, a few of them are even staying with me at my house…

I gotta try and get some sleep…
Later
SleepyDan
