""Powershifter", a brand new song from the new band calling itself FEAR FACTORY — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who played on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — can be streamed below.
FEAR FACTORY will release its new studio album, "Mechanize", on February 9, 2010 via Candlelight Records. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), was recently mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY). Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Industrial Discipline" and "Fear Campaign"."
Holy shit, it's been sooo long since I've heard these guys. I miss this sound a lot. Thanks for the post, and can you guess where I got my screen name :D
Thanks for posting the song, MrD. I can hear maturity in the sound and lyrics of FF, one of the most influential heavy bands in the world of cyber metal.
I have to disagree with violent_reation. No dis on Slayer, one of the few bands that command respect. i have yet to listen to world painted blood, due to the anoying quirk i'm one of the dying breed that still buys shit rather than download it. But, WTF? Fear Factory deserve way better than to be grouped into nu-metal!!! They have been given way less credit than they deserve. To class them with the likes of Disturbed, drowning pool and system of a down is total bullshit. Incidentally, i seen system of a down when they were OPENING for Fear Factory.
I dont mind system of a down really, they were one of the least nu-metal nu-metal bands if you know what i mean, and they could put on a good live show. But theres just some bands like Fear Factory, Korn, Slipknot that i just cant listen to anymore since im not an angst ridden teenager like i was when they were first around.I just really cant make any connection to the music anymore and a lot of it sounds really uninspired compared to metal bands who arnt targeting teenagers as their target audience. Each to their own though.I will also be buying the new slayer album, I like to see how albums are before i hand over any money.
You're absolutely right, Sean of the Dead. And I firmly believe that kids nowadays should start paying attention to the actual "content" of the lyrics... instead of spending their short-lived lives downloading all kinds of songs illegally. "It's targeted to [such and such] audience." What else is new? What would happen if you started thinking critically for a change?
You do know that theres more to a song than its lyrics dont you?, and a band can still write music for a younger audience without sticking to cliche lyrics. I think thinking critically makes finding good music even more rewarding.Just my opinion, people always go there own way with music which is how it should be. I just happened to leave this type of music behind when i was a lot younger so maybe thats why i see it that way.
Back when I lived in Vancouver I had the opportunity to have a talk with Mr. Hoglan at Hemp BC.This was when he was recording with SYL. We smoked a couple of joints and talked drums for a while. He's one of the coolest musicians I've ever had the pleasure in meeting. He let me pick his brain about drumming, and the business in general for about 1/2 hour. Best tuesday afternoon I ever had . Thanks again, Gene.
