Does anyone know of any slasher films that maybe didn’t have any sequels and that no one really mentions anymore but are still pretty good?
Maybe something from years ago or something recent that has slipped under the radar?
Torso is one which I really enjoyed but I hadn’t heard of it until a few years ago.-
what about “Silent Night Deadly Night”? it was released recently after being banned for twenty or thrity years, but that is one movie that should be remade soon…………or what about the slashers from the Afterdark HorrorFest? a lot of those are forgotten even before they are out for a month!
-
That’s one that I’ve never seen. I’ve tried to get hold of it in UK but I can only find it online and it’s expensive. It’s looks like one that I would enjoy though.
Some of my favorite films to watch are the cheap and nasty 80′s slashers like American Gothic or Maniac. I’m on the look out for some new ones. -
oh ya would you like this movie then!!! have you ever heard of the movie “Hannibal Rising”?
-
Perhaps Cropsy from The Burning, or if it wasn’t for the new remake, the Miner from My Bloody Valentine.
My brain isn’t fully functioning right now, so I will come back to this one.
Although props for mentioning Maniac, that was one fucked up movie that really could have been expanded upon.
-
I’ve never really thought about watching Hannibal Rising to be honest. Is it any good?
I enjoyed Silence of the lambs but just thought they were milking it a bit with the sequels/prequels. Might give it a go now though. -
its a good prequel, but i would not go out of my way to watch it though…….i loved “Silence of the Lambs” and thought the sequels got worse as they went on……not good!
-
loved hannible rising! prequels usually suck, but this was an awsome look into why hannible is what/why hannible is.
-
what about any slashers in the AfterDark Horrorfest??? those are watched once and then never remembered again!!!
-
I’ve only heard about the Afterdark Horrorfest through this site. The films on their website don’t look too brilliant though. We’ve got a similar thing called Frightfest in the UK. Haven’t had the chance to go to one yet though. Martyrs had its premiere there last year.
-
that seems like one hell of a Horrorfest if “Martyrs” is premiered there!!!! every year there are two or three good movies in the Afterdark Horrorfest, but you have to get lucky to find them though!!!
a couple good ones are “Autopsy”, “Dark Ride”, “Slaughter”, “Frontiere(s)” for the slashers, but there are plenty of other good non-slashers as well!!!!
-
Thanks for that. I’ve wanted to check Dark Ride and Autopsy out for a while but they’re not available in blockbuster in UK and they’re quite expensive to buy. I hate spending loads on a DVD that turns out to be crap!
I watched Scar 3D last night and it wasn’t bad. Some quite gruesome moments in it.
They’ve just posted the Frightfest lineup on BD…[Read more] -
i looked at that, and it seems like a lot of those movies will have the same problem all other horrorfest movies do….
-
Yeah, I suppose the majority of them will turn out rubbish but I’m sure there’ll be a couple of gems in there too. I’d like to go just for the experience really.
-
the experience is amazing…..especially since i looked up some of those movies and they actually look good to begin with…..hope you have fun!

The Toolbox Murders Was A Good Film That Didnt Have A Sequel
-
this isnt “didnt have a sequel” this is forgotten!!! “Toolbox Murders” is not forgotten…..yet at least
-
Not Many Of The People I Know Have Seen It

I really dig Madman, it’s not on dvd in the states yet, so I got an import…they play it on IFC late at night all the time though. I think Hatchet was a real nod to Madman…if you haven’t seen it, check it out. Love the folk music!
-
I like Madman too. That’s one film that IS available in the UK. There seems to be loads of rare ones available everywhere else apart from UK though. Mother’s Day is one of them and i’d like to check it out. Any good?
-
What about “American Psycho” is that still forgotten or am i wrong on that?
-
Forgotten Slashers
Madman
The burning
The Prowler,
The Funhouse
Slaughter high
The Prey
Torso (Its really a Giallo film but I always viewed it as a slasher film)
Alone In The Dark(1982)
Pieces
The Final Terror
and I have a couple more that I think almost any slasher fan would enjoy -
i honestly can say that i have never heard of a lot of those movies in my entire life!!!!!!!
-
Never heard of them, these are classics, most of the ones ghostslasher named were listed by many more of us, check some of ‘em out!!
-
I haven’t heard of The Final Terror or The Prey. I’ll have to try and get hold of them. I’m glad there’s someone else who likes Torso.
-
i guess i will have to….its kind of hard being a kid and having to look back and forward in horror….i will try my hardest and check out some of these movies!!!
-
slumber party massacre
-
Toolbox Murders
Scarecrows -
I think we should bring back Captain Howdy! but make the new one WAY more sadistic!
-
I’ve just read somewhere about a couple of old slashers called “Eyes of a Stranger” and “Visiting Hours”.
Anyone heard of them? Any good? -
I saw Visting Hours a long time ago at the drive in but I cant really remember it all that good. William Shatner and Michael Ironside are in it.It came out in 82, Directed by Jean-Claude Lord.I know one thing for sure it is not great.I am sorry but I cant remember if it is worth watching or not !
-
Cheers anyway. I watched the trailer on youtube and it looked OK. Probably not groundbreaking but I might give it a try anyway!
-
sorry I coudnt be more help. I might even rent it myself If I can find it first.
-
I watched Sleepaway Camp/Nightmare Vacation 2 yesterday. Haven’t seen it for ages. It was really cheaply made but it’s still a fun film. I wonder what Pamela Springsteen’s up to these days?!
-
I’ve watched another couple of slasher type films this weekend. Tourist Trap and The New York Ripper. Both films were quite good but not proper slashers really. I can’t get hold of Mother’s Day anywhere in the UK.
I’ve just picked up the similarly titled Graduation Day. Does anyone think it’s any good? I haven’t watched it yet. -
Just watched Graduation Day. I wasn’t expecting much and it didn’t give me much! Found it quite boring but there was one good death involving a pole vaulter and some spikes!
-
Stage Fright is an awesome slasher!
-
SILENT SCREAM (1980) Yvonne De Carlo ( lily munster ) is in this one.it was just released on dvd recently after 20+years of obscurity !!

Im gonna go with The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

Finally got round to watching Just Before Dawn last night and I thought it was quite good. Best described as Hills Have Eyes meets Friday the 13th. Not very original but it had some good kills in it and some creepy moments.

The Mutilator (aka Fall Break) is great IF you can put your hands on the unrated version. Just watched The Burning which has been mentioned in this discussion a few times. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a slight rip-off of earlier slashers but it was a pretty good one. Oh Dude, Yea They Were Showing Funhouse The Other Day And By Looking At Your Opinion On It, I Decided To Watch It BUT I Have To Admit That It Was Not Great As I Was Expecting……… Kinda Shallow In Places!
-
Really? I personally enjoyed it but I think I might be in the minority anyway! I know it could’ve been a lot better as most of the kills take place off screen, it’s kind of slow to start off with and the acting wasn’t great. Overall though, I thought it was a decent 80′s slasher with a great setting.
I’m hoping to watch Happy Birthday To Me at…[Read more] -

-
Watched Happy Birthday To Me last night and it was great fun. The kills were pretty inventive, especially the one with the weights and the one with the kebab skewer down the throat! The story was completely ridiculous but it was still really enjoyable (don’t hold me to that though Ultimate.Nightmare!). I can see where a few of the 90′s slashers…[Read more]

Just finished watching Hellnight which stars Linda Blair. It’s quite a good slasher from the 80′s set in an old mansion. It seemed to drag on a bit but I quite enjoyed it as it was fun. I can’t…[Read more]

Watched Pieces last night and the death scenes were really graphic and gory. GRUDGE4life posted an update in the group ZOMBIE,ZOMBIES,AND MORE ZOMBIES!! June 27, 2009 9:24 am
I know that we all love the classic Romero (god) films, but what about the ones from this decade?
-
Diary is a good metaphor, but it lacks the Romero quality at some points. Shaun of the Dead and Planet Terror are great “homages” to Zombies. But for me, [REC] is still the best!
-
i dont know about that…..”Quarentine” was good, but unless if the spanish version is that much better than i have to say “Diary of the Dead” takes the cake for me between the two!
-
From what I’ve heard, Quarentine it’s awfull, a cheesy version of REC. Diary has some good scenes, like the one with the amish old man, but…I don’t know, kinda felt weird, not in a good way, when it ended. Something was missing. REC leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth. It’s so real, specially for me, because I’m portuguese and we have…[Read more]
-
darn you!!!! when “REC 2″ comes out you have to tell us how good it is…..have you seen the movie “Insanitarium”?
-
I have to say it is a choice between the Dawn of the Dead remake and Resident Evil both are very entertaining films but in the long fight Dawn of the Dead is the winner for me.
-
Dance of the Dead was pretty cool for a low budget indie. [REC] is the best in my opinion. I do ,however, agree with Philogelos on the ending. That did kind of make me feel terrible inside. As for you being so close to Spain, I think that would add to the effect. Halloween is based in my home state of Illinois. Sure, the town’s fake but it’s still…[Read more]

“Dance of the Dead” i think tried a little to hard on the comedy side sometimes…..if they would have had more zombie and less comedy then they would have had something going there, but they didnt and they dont…..my top five have to be
1. “Insanitarium” sweet ass movie!
2. “28 Weeks Later” sequel better be good!
3. “[REC]” the original…[Read more] -
i liked “insanitanrium”! very good movie.
I liked “the rage”, mainly b/c my fav. band was in it, wish it had better actors tho.
Loved Doomsday (even tho there’s not to many zombies) im a sucker for a mohawk ;p;)
l loved the “28″ movies
Loved Planet Terror! zombie, rose mcgowan as a stripper, dont get much better than that ;p -
i dont know about “the Rage” or “Doomsday”, but “Planet Terror” is a sweet movie!
-
most people dont like em, but i have my reasons for liking em.
planet terror was awsome, the guy that carries around a jar of balls…very creative ;p who does that
-
probably people who have something mentally wrong with them, but im not here to judge!!!
-
yes, but makes for a humorus part in that movie
-
we dont need humor in a zombie movie….that takes people out of it, and is a big reason why zombie movies are not as big as they should be…..it is easier to make fun of zombies than it is to make a serious zombie movie!!!
-
Automaton Transfusion ruled! There’s a scene involving a baby that I have never seen before. Good call Jae!
-
ya its good, but it is horribly made…..i like certain scenes of that movie, but when you try to make a zombie movie in three days then there are going to be a lot of mistakes…….and there were!!! i cant wait for a sequel, but i hope they take thier time and spend some more money on the next one!
-
Ihated..Hated Automatic Transfusion. There are so many parts in that movie go beyond stupidity. Its my most hated zombie film, but i gotta give credit to a bunch of guys that got a movie out on DVD. The three all time worst zombie films for me are Automatic Transfusion, Undead, and Zombie Lake(I swear you’ll want to die after watching this piece…[Read more]

I am getting a little too sick of cheap and stupid ZOM films to tell the truth small and micro budget films can be good and well written and acted if the crew and cast have the drive too make something to be proud of instead of making crap to get a fast buck.
-
this is why we need Romero (god) to make a comeback……we also need big labels to give directors a fair chance and hope that something good comes out of the process!!!!
-
maybe Rob Zombie should make a real “Zombie” film.
-
that would be sick….and maybe good enough to make other directors interested in making zombie films too???
-
Never seen any of the 28s…but I’m really looking forward! Dawn of the Dead is also a great movie. It’s amazing the pregnant zombie and her little baby…so sweet=P
-
by far the best scene in any zombie film i have ever seen has to be the zombie birth………but you need to see the 28 _____ Later movies…..it is definitely worth it!!!!
-
Recently I really enjoyed Diary of the Dead & Fido, an older one that most might not have seen is “The Dead Hate the Living”, dtv budget but really entertaining & a lot of references. I’m really looking forward to Romero’s next “…of the Dead” & Zombieland looks pretty damn good!
-
:O how have u not seen the 28 later movies???? wow, not even one of em?
-
i have a feeling that when either “…of the Dead” or “Zombieland” come out this discussion will be talking about nothing other than those movies!!!!
-
I’ll explain: here in portugal not all american movies go through the cinemas, heading straight to dvd. That, as you may wonder, happens a lot with horror movies. I haven’t seen any of 28…later because the only one I’ve ever seen because the only one I found on DVD was 28 weeks later, and I would like to see them in order.

that’s true, also. But there is no movie I haven’t found in Amazon. And yeah! I like to give money and to help the movie industry, that, for instance in Portugal is very poor
-
i’m all about buying the movie as well, but i’m also one for watching the movie before i buy it. I hate seeing a movie getting all hyped up and buy it/go to theater**, and it sux! So if its worth buying, i do, but if its not then i shall no waste my money….

“I want to buy the movie, I want it on my shelf, w/box art, special features the whole deal!”
so do i, if its worth it. There are so many movies i’m glad i “previewed” first.
-
i could care less about previewing…..i buy horror films if i think they are good….if that is not the case then i keep them anyway because i am trying to build a collection….
-
Agreed with GRUDGE. obviously, if I preview it, great! If not, a bad movie is always good to laugh at=P And they are great, if you wish do make movies(I do!), showing how not to do it!
-
And besides, I love watching movies without knowing anything about them. When they’re a good surprise…it’s priceless!
-
well to each his own….
-
…and to the winner goes the spoils???
-
I kind of like laughs with my scares, so Shaun and Fido for me.
-
ok…i do have to admit that “Fido” was kind of an ok horror/comedy, but i didint like it though…..the little boy and the zombie vs. the world seems kind of gay to me…..im just saying!!!
-
“I Am Legend”, shit I just love a good zombie flick, not hard to please there!
-
“I Am Legend” is not that good of a zombie movie at all actually……
-
I am Legend was better than i though, being a Will Smith/main stream movie, but still not good…….
-
they killed the dog……they ruined it for me right there……
-
that*^
-
when they killed the Dog that was really messed up it made me so angry that I almost turned off the film. But it just goes too show that a good Dog is better than 80% of the humans in this world.

it is a movie people…..killing the dog i thought was a good part of it…..mans best friend saved his life to risk his own……he could have just as easily ran away and saved his own fur!!!!!!! but he didnt…..
-
The dog died because the character was a moron! but at least he died at the end saving another moron.
-
oh yeah, because my first thought in a zombie apocalypse is to look for traps that the zombie put down in the middle of the night…..just face it, the dog died!!! at least it was in a better way than it just being brutally killed because the dog ran into the building…..like the beginning of the movie!!!! it should have died then…..
-
Fact is the dog died, get over it. I love animals but I got over the dogs death soon after it happened. Why, because though it was a likable character, it wasn’t a central character. Anyways, 28 Days Later was a great zombie film. It was original and new. Remember seeing fast zombies for the first time! It was great.
-
what about the dog in “Planet Terror”?????? that dog ate it hard, but i dont see anyone complaining about that one……i remember seeing “28 Days Later” for the first time……i was terrified when i first saw them there zombies run……
-
Shaun of the Dead is going to be a classic. Hilarious, brilliant film.
Dead Snow is a gory, rip-roaring good time too
-
“Shaun of the Dead” is more of a comedy than it is a horror film, and not as recent as you thin it is!!! what has come out in the past 2-3 years that is your favorite???
-
More comedy or horror, it’s still a zombie flick.
I do know how recent it is, I guess I consider 2004 still kind of recent. But I can pick more recent stuff, like…- , 2009 (which I already siad, great flick, though it has some comedy in it so you may not like it)
- , 2006 (again lots of comedy)
- , 2006
- , 2006
- , 2007 (not Peter…[Read more] -
“Zombie Diaries” was horrible with a capital whore!!!!! i never said that i was against comedy in horror, but that “Shaun of the Dead” is more of a comedy than it is a horror film…..”Dead Snow” is more of a horror film than a comedy……..”Dance of the Dead” is the same way as well….good recent zombie movie that you should see!!!
-
Yeah opinions for are pretty polarized.
I remember being all right (you mean the movie and not the episode right?).. I was pretty drunk when I watched it so I should probably check it out again soon

ya, the one that was done by Ghost House Pictures and has the Lionsgate seal of approval on the side!!!
dont get me wrong….i like the POV movies and think they are underrated, but that movie just had no meat to it…it was all drama and no zombie if you know what i mean!!!
-
How much gore does “Dead Snow” have? Could somebody please name a zombie movie with the same amount of blood, etc., so that I have a better idea.
-
Can’t really compare it to another movie off the top of my head, as far as gore quantity goes. The humor is a little dark and twisted though. One scene that sticks out in my mind is a human is using a zombie’s intenstines as a rope, dangling off a cliff.
-
that sounds kind of funny, but what else is he supposed to do??? jump off the cliff without a makeshift rope???
-
Does the cameraman linger over the gore effects or there are alot of quick-cuts in “Dead Snow”?
-
i havent seen it either…..im just hoping they release it here sometime soon before i am driven crazy by all this talk about it!!!
-
I just looked on amazon.co.uk and it says that “Dead Snow” will be released on 31 August 2009. For some reason I can
-
just imagine that by this time next year it will be released in th US and UK…..
-
You can DL it online, if you really wanna see it that badly.. probably not legal though
-
I don
-
whats that supposed to be a joke???? 1…2…DIE????? i think someone needs to take a german class!!!! isnt it Dod Sno??? or something like that???…… you can legally download it online, but you have to find the right site though….
-
i know its the slogan, but not the name as he suggested……which is a very good slogan by the way…..given german and russian words give that extra kick to words!!!! i might just watch that movie online thorugh Blockbuster!!!
-
I was just saying that the slogan of the movie is wrong because it has to be or else it doesn[Read more]

i am sure that the movie will apoligize for upsetting your feelings Jae………ya, i guess i will use my friends who have netflix too so that i can watch a movie….im just cool like that….

“Diary of the Dead” is an amazing movie!!!! i really liked it, but i still think there are better ones from recent years!!
-
isn’t out on Netflix yet, it’s not even out on DVD in the states (not sure about anywhere else). I think the DVD is coming out in November. If you want an actual disc, you may be able to find it on eBay, but if you’re torrent-savvy, just download the video file.[Read more]
-
No, you can “save” it on Netflix, which means if they do eventually get it in, it’ll be added to your queue. I checked yesterday as well. Just the green save button, no red add button. Under the “details” portion, it reads “Available Formats: DVD (date unknown)”
Believe me, it’s not out on DVD in the states.[Read more]

Resident Evil, Quarantine blew my mind. And House of the Dead 2 for it’s sheer lolz and I liked the three female leads, even if they did kind of steal the whole RE deal in some scenes. And I cannot forget Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead. I want to see REC

3. 28 Days Later
4. Dawn of the Dead
5. Shaun of the Dead -
I watched , a new zombie movie from Brazil, the other day, and it was awwwwwesome. Lots of over-the-top gore, with each bloody gag outdoing the last. It’s set in a swamp and every inch of the movie is soaked with sweat, blood, swamp-water, and of course a shitload of mud.
With the plot and silly-ish gore, it reminded me of .
Not out on DVD yet…[Read more] -
sounds good, but what kind of zombies are they to begin with???
-
They’re rather slow, until they see a human, then they turn into pretty fast, furious zombies, like in .[Read more]
-
now that sounds like a good movie…..if they were slow then that would be ruined by the whole mud thing…
-
I’ve seen it yesterday and, although it’s not a favourite, it’s an amazing movie. Deadgirl. So fricking disturbing!
-
I would have to pick the movie Brain Dead from the director Kevin Tenney, who also did Night of the Demons, Witchboard, etc. Not the most original story, but a few good gore effects, so that made me pretty happy.
-
1. REC
2. 28 days later
3. Dawn of the Dead (remake)
4. Deadgirl
5. Dead and Breakfast -
Hands down Return of the Living Dead.
-
I luuuurve 28 days later…but I have a big soft spot for the humour of Shaun of the Dead

Planet Terror And 28 Weeks/Days Later………..
-
i would have to say “Pontypool”…
-
Pontypool Is Cool GRUDGE4life……….. Thats Canadian Right?
Anyways, I Like German, Italian And Austrailian Horror Films The BEST!
How About Children Of The Living Dead & Dead Snow?
And Does Hills Have Eyes Count?
-
The “Hills have Eyes” does not count…at least not to me because i classify it as a creature feature (example: vampires, sub-human creature, and exorcism movies)….yes, it is canadian, and they found a new way to spread the virus!!!
“Dead Snow” was alright, but i am not a big fan of trying to hard to add in humor into zombie movies…it is…[Read more]

“Dance of the Dead” had nothing to do with a circus…”Insanitarium” is a sick nasty movie!! that movie blew my mind wide open when i watched it for the first time!!!

Then I Must Have Seen Another Film…….My Bad!
And Yes! I Agree With Your Chosen Words ‘Sick’ & ‘Nasty’ There! I Watched That Film For The First Time At Like 3AM……….How Cool Is That Eh?

-
Agreed!
-
recent GOOD zombie movie’s i’ve seen:
1. Pontypool
2. La Horde (The Horde in French, subtitles but very good)
3. ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (it was more funny, but still good and gorey)
4. Deadgirl -
pho: i am inpressed by the variety in that list, but i would also want to say that “Deadgirl” was better then “ZMD”
-
Shaun Of The Dead
Zombieland
28 Days Later -
Zombieland Was Just Ok, Despite The Name, The Zombies Appear Only In The Starting And Near The Ending!
-
i’m pretty sure the name doesnt literaly mean ‘land full of zombies’ nightmare…i think it is more of the world being turned into a theme park where the theme is a zombie apocolypse…
-
Thank You GRUDGE, I Could Have Never Realized That!
But Anyways, Woody Harrelson Was Great As Ever But The Film Itself Was Just Ok!
-
I gotta go with Dance of the Dead. It has a lil bit of everything you love in a zombie movie.

Agreed. I love classic Warner Brothers- bugs, Wile E. Cyote, Daffy, Elmer. Mel Blanc was one of my heroes, I was so bummed when he died
One of my favorite pictures is the one with all of Mel Blanc’s vocal characters titled Speechless. Tex designed Bugs Bunny but then was redrawn by Robert McKimson. Timeless Stuff.[Read more]
Oh man a classic print. Loved it
One of my fave comic artist is Butch Hartman, but also William Hanna.
I think John Cricfalusi is the coolest. ‘Cuz he draw The Ren and Stimpy Show ^^ MY fav toon)
Hannah- Barbera were huge heroes of mine as well. Chuck Jones to add. Chuck had a style like no other, if you look at how Tom and Jerry were drawn and then watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas you will see what I mean. John Kricfalusi also was the first to create cartoons on the internet which was more for adults but talented nonetheless.
I like how he draws veins on the neck…or when somebody’s getting mad or angry….he’s the best in this way ^^
I know what you mean, his over exaggerated veins, bulging eyes and occasional butt crack really made the toon.
